A Journal of the Proceeding and Minutes of the Governor and Council of His Majesty's Province of Georgia, March 8, 1759 - December 31, 1762: "Read a petition of Durham Hancock setting forth that he had been two years in the Province and had had on lands granted him and was desirous to obtain three hundred acres for cultivation as he had a wife and three children. The petition was for three hundred acres along the Altamaha River. The petition was granted and so ordered." and Council Held in Savannah, Georgia - 1765: "His Excellency laid before the board two letters from Leut. Baillie, touching the murder of Durham Hancock, a white many and his Indian servant, by three runaway Negroes and two wenches, now in custody." Julia French Wood
