Hi Helene, On your 1st item....I think the Samuel Smith mentioned in John Hancock's deed abstract might be mine. I don't know if my Smith line was from VA, but they tended to marry transplanted Virginians, which makes me wonder. I also wonder if the Isham Hancock in that same item might be the source of the given name of my CSA Cavalry Capt. Isham Richey Wallis. My Wallis folks were in the Chatham/Randolph Co NC area from 1772 until about 1812. Speculating a little further, it would be tempting to theorize that these folks with early Ishams were possibly from VA and named their children after Henry Isham...maternal great grandfather of Thomas Jefferson. I've been hunting for the Isham link and source for a while now.
