Once one has traced one's descent to Charlemagne, there are several traditional genealogies leading back to Adam. For example: http://wespatterson.com/Biblical/charlemagne.htm http://www.thecolefamily.com/hobby/springer.htm Of course, if you buy that, I have some nice real estate down by the swamp I'd like to show you. :-) So, does anyone know how to tie this John William Hancock to the Massachusetts Hancocks (like Gov. John Hancock)? ~Steve Luckau Dummy@StanfordAlumni.Org [Replace Dummy with Surname] -----Original Message----- From: Ardath Buckaway [mailto:bqueen@compusmart.ab.ca] Sent: Saturday, November 03, 2001 7:14 PM To: HANCOCK-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [HANCOCK-L] Just have to brag Anyone on the Hancock list who goes through Frances (Fanny) Farrar, and John William Hancock, may want to know that they are cousins of the present Queen Elizabeth. I am her 20th cousin. I worked my way back to Charlemagne, and then found a web page that had Queen Elizabeth on it, with her Plantagenet ancestors which connected with Charlemagne, the same as I do, so I checked it out, and found out my relationship. I am still working on all the dates, and places of birth, marriage & death. When I am finished I will be willing to share. I am also looking for pictures or reproductions of paintings. One Web site also said that we were related to Juilus Caesar, and Mark Antony. It could be but well, I'm a bit of a skeptic. Just thought I would drop in and let those who are interested know. Hello Stephen, I don't think that is going to happen. Our John William's line is stalled at Benjamin - abt 1710 and even that is speculative. The records that were destroyed by the War, or Fires and pretty well put an end to much hope. Unless, someone finds something in an attic, barn or other strange places, that will tie it together, I don't think there is much of a chance. Of course, that can and does happen, occasionally, and it would be wonderful if we were all so lucky. It is thought that the northern Hancocks, and the southern Hancocks may have been related but there is no proof of any kind. There was lots of movement between the colonists in the north and the south, but so far, we have found nothing that will tie them together on the Hancock line. If you should find something, we will all be in your debt!!! Ardath in Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stephen R. Hi again Steve, I don't think I am interested in your swamp land, or those genealogy files. I do see what your mean though. It is rather entertaining but not much more. I had a good chuckle though. Where did you ever find them? Can you imagine, someone taking all the time to put that stuff together? I just don't have that amount of time. Thanks for the laugh anyway!
