    2. I wish I could put my finger on the most beautiful Fourth Of July toast I've ever read. It was used for years in Virginia when all gathered to celebrate our independence. From what I gathered, it was first used shortly after the end of the Revolutionary War and thence for years afterward. The toastmaster would ask all to raise their glasses to the gallant men and women of the original thirteen colonies. Then he would list all the heroes of the war (including the foreign generals like Lafayette), and then Virginia's heroes (Patrick Henry, Washington, Pendleton, Mason, etc.) and our flag and our government and...at last...the beautiful ladies of the Old Dominion.
