Well, Bob, I have the name of John Adams HANCOCK for either (Capt.) John HANCOCK of Louisa Co., VA or his son known as John A. HANCOCK. I don't see a connection with the ADAMS family of MA, since this HANCOCK family was from Louisa Co., VA, so there may be a connection with the Virginia ADAMS family. Just haven't unearthed that one yet either. I assume that as the custom of the day that the middle name could represent a mother's maiden name or an ancestral surname. But...you know...there may be a chance that our HANCOCK families are related, but proving it is practically impossible knowing of all of the lost records that exist for Hanover, Louisa, Orange and other close VA counties. So...for now, I have to conclude as you do that they are two separate lines. I have even learned that one of the descendants of Austin went to North Carolina, where many of other HANCOCK lines are found. And...the DAVIS family intermarried into the BARTLETT family, which intermarried into the GRAVES family, which intermarried into the HANCOCK family. And...the GRAVES were connected to the BROCKMANs. Guess we will all keep lookin', chattin', and learnin' where, how, or if these HANCOCK families connect. We might even keep supposin' in the back of our minds. Happy Halloween all...our grandchildren are anxiously awaitin', Audrey ----- Original Message ----- From: <BOBHOP@aol.com> To: <HANCOCK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, October 30, 2001 9:26 AM Subject: Re: [HANCOCK-L] Austin HANCOCK family > > In a message dated 10/29/01 9:05:13 PM, AudreyShieldsHancock@att.net writes: > > << I have not found a connection to any Major HANCOCK & family, and I don't > > think others working on Major's lineage has either >> > > Natalie- > > I would like to say that I agree with Audrey's comment.
