Hello: I am looking for a connection for my GGrandfather who was William Hancock m. to Ruth Haygood (sp?). They were in Southern IL around 1900 and in Dexter, MO in 1903- Where my grandfather was born on Oct. 17, 1903. They had seven children, including (not in order) Ulan, Clyde, William Marcus, Ethal, Mac (mackenzie?); Marie, and Lena. My GGrandfather did not tell of his background except for this story. When he was a young man, he had an older brother John, who had a really nice handle-bar mustache. William (Bill) caught JOhn asleep under a shade tree and put a big glob of chicken manure in the mustache. John had to shave off the mustache because he could not get all of the stink out. John told his mom that he would kill his brother Bill if he ever found him. When Bill came home his mom told him to leave, which he did. We know that Bill married Ruth Haygood, (Haywood), she was possibly from KY, TN, or IL. The older children were born in IL, (don't know what town) then they moved to MO, then to AR. We also know that Bill had webbed fingers and/or small size on his left hand, but that he also lost his hand in an accident when he was either an older teenager or young man in his early twenties. That is all we know of his and his wife Ruth. Is any one missing one of these people or know of the webbed finger and small hand feature on the Hancock side? Thank you. You may get an answer to this one eventually.I remember about a year ago there was a long discussion about webbed fingers on Hancock line. You should try to find William in 1900 census in Ill..It should give place of birth. Good luck.Tamara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charlotte Terbot" <turbobutterfly@hotmail.com> To: <HANCOCK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2001 5:32 PM Subject: [HANCOCK-L] Lost Hancock > Hello: I am looking for a connection for my GGrandfather who was William > Hancock m. to Ruth Haygood (sp?).
