Hi again Carol, I have managed to misplace my Hancock notes for the moment....but I entered just about everything into the list archives. From memory, there was a Clement Sr grandson and a Robert Hancock grandson who were named Clement. The Robert Hancock grandson moved to GA and AL IIRC. I don't think Robert Dudley ever went by the Hancock surname. He was an infant when Clement Sr died and was subsequently raised by Col Nicholas Massenburg ( who also died on him, when he was about 15 years old). Robert Dudley appeared in the Massenburg wills according to Aunt Peggy, but was not named in any Hancock wills. We have speculated that Clement Sr might have had another marriage prior to Anthany. What proof have you found for that ? What documentation/proof do you have for the parents of Clement Sr (h/o Anthany). Clement Sr has been our brickwall ...have you broken through ?? How/where are the Hunts connected to the James Jones line ? I daughter out of the James Jones line with his daughter Rebecca Jones m Wm Cooke III. Their daughter Sarah Cooke married Henry Mitchell and their son William Mitchell married Lucy Hancock (d/o Clement Sr & Anthany) in 1758 . Also....it's my understanding Frederick Green descends from the Lewis Green line...does your research agree with that finding ? And yes......Although Mary Renfroe married a Clement Hancock from this line, it was not Clement Jr (s/o Clement Sr & Anthany) whose only child, a little girl named Susannah...was born about the same year (1754) that you have for the birth of Mary Renfroe's husband Clement Hancock (b 1754) I promise you this information is in the list archives. ~malinda [email protected] wrote: In a message dated 6/26/2003 12:10:33 PM Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: > > > > > Hi Carol, > > It's great to hear from you too. I agree with your conclusion that these folks are most probably of the Surry Co VA Hancock line (dead ended at the moment with Clement Sr and Anthany).....HOWEVER. > > There's a problem....how do you explain that Clement Jr (s/o Clement Sr & Anthany Hancock) was already deceased (with a deceased young daughter named Susannah) in 1758 when his father died ? His widow Mary (nee Harrison d/o John Harrison) sold his land in Surry Co VA a few years later. Thus...he can NOT be Clement Hancock b 1754. I'm totally lost...are you saying that Clement Jr's wife was Mary Harrison (NOT - RENFROE), d/o John Harrison? The children that I have on record for Clement Jr. and Mary Renfore are: 1. Joseph (m. Mary Brady); 2. William (md., Mary Hatcher); 3. Unity -- my ancestor (m. Judkins Hunt, Jr.); 4. Clement, III (m. Temperance Jackson); 5. John (m. Eleanor Jackson), 6. Enoch (name for Mary's father), 7. Joel (m. 1st., Elizabeth Brady? and 2nd., Marther Reeves and 8. Mary Hancock (m. Adam Clay). My records show that Clement Sr., had another wife (unk.). Clement St. and Anthany (mnunk.) children were: 1. Anthany; 2. Letitia (m. Frederick Greene -- related to Rev. Myles Greene m. Elizabeth Hunt, d/o Capt. Judkins Hunt, Sr. and Martha Batte); 3. Lucy (m. William Mitchell) -- your ancestors; 4. Sarah; 5. Hannah; 6. William (m. Rebecca Jones); 7. Mary; 8. Clement Jr. - ???? (m. Mary Renfore); 9. Benjamin Hancock (m. Sarah Stainback). There was an adopted son, Robert Dudley Hancock (m. unk. Elizabeth). The Hunts also were related to the Jones and Stainback families. > > There is a more likely probability this Clement was the grandson of Robert Hancock of Surry Co VA and his wife Mary Doby. The details should be in the HANCOCK-L archives. This Robert Hancock is likely either an older son or younger brother of Clement Sr. This same Robert Hancock is also the most likely progenitor of Bill Felknor's line. Further details of this are also in the list archives from years ago. You might want to search them and see what you think. Do no have anything regarding a Robert Hancock and his wife Mary Doby, Surry Co., VA. My records show Clement Sr.'s parents -- William Hancock and and Elizabeth Phillips. So perhaps Robert Hancock was the brother(???) of Clement Sr. > > I'll copy Aunt Peggy on this . It's her research work. If I've gotten anything wrong (operating from memory here), she'll correct me. > > Have a great day.....~malinda > > > > > Hi Malinda, > > Glad to hear from you. Yes, my records indicate that Clement Hancock, Jr. was the s/o Clement Hancock, Sr. and Anthany (mnunk.), Albemarle Parish, Surry Co., VA. He was prob. born abt. 1754, Albemarle Parish, Surry Co., VA; d. bef 1820, > Wilkinson Co., GA; md., Mary Renfore, abt. 1775, Wilkes Co., GA. > > Carol > [email protected] > > > ==== HANCOCK Mailing List ==== > Check out our HANCOCK Project World Wide at: > http://members.aol.com/heatherjvw/Hancock/ > > > > > ==== HANCOCK Mailing List ==== > Questions about this list?
