    1. Re: [HANCOCK-L] Stuck on John L. in 1770s
    2. Sue, I am very interested in John L Hancock. I have been trying to make a connection to this family. My gr grandfather was Robert Scott Hancock and he had a brother names Thomas I Hancock. They lived in and around Phoenix, Yazoo County, MS. I was told that John L was married to a Tabitha Belien but the only John L I have been able to find is John L married to Tabitha Ballew. I think this could be the same family. My mother and I think that Robert and Thomas were sons of one of John L's children. The family seems to have come from Virginia, to Kentucky, Tennessee and finally settling in Mississippi. The names of his son's as far as we can tell were John L, Joel W, William, Tarleton, Leonard, Isaac, Josiah Flowers, James, L W, and George M. George M's will mentions his sister Nancy. The dates I have are George M born Va 1805, LW born 1816 Tn, James 1807 KY, Leonard 1815 Tn, Tarleton born 1811 KY, and John L born 1817 Tn. These dates are just from information gathered in the census records. John L is found in 1850 Warren County, Ms census married to Maria age 24, with children Charity age 8, Mary A age 6, Caroline age 4 and James W age 1. Tarleton E was in the same census with Sarah age 21, and Daniel age 2. Leonard was age 35, Artimissa age 23, and his mother Tabitha age 68, this would mean she was born in 1782. I did find someone else with a Tarleton Hancock and I think they must me connected somehow but it is not our Tarleton because the year is wrong. I also looking at the census records for 1830 & 1840 and found John L and William, but I also found that in 1840 the name right before John was Leonard Below. Could this be a relation? Since, John L's son is named Leonard and his wife is Tabitha Ballew this could be a brother. Hope you know some things we do not. Sincerely, Mary
