    1. Re: [HANCOCK-L] Boonesborough
    2. Alan- Thanks for the posting on the early Hancocks at Fort Boone. My 4g-grandparents Richard and Judith (Hancock) Wade were also there (Judith Hancock being a sister to William and Stephen Hancock) and Judith's son, my 3g-gf Elisha Hancock 1773 spent his early years in the Fort. I have not found much data on George Hancock but he lived in Goochland Co VA after the Rev War, and he is thought to have been a brother to the other Hancocks stationed there. The reported demise of William is an error. Below please find some info on him. ================================================================== ! Revolutionary War soldier. Served with brother Stephen and brother-in-law Richard Wade under Daniel Boone in KY. He was captured by Indians, escaped and made his way back to Ft. Boone in time to fight at the siege. ! He testified against Boone at Boone's Court Martial. ! Moved to MO with Boone. ! WILLIAM HANCOCK (BENJAMIN5, JOHN4, WILLIAM3, SYMON2, WILLIAM1) was born 1737 in Va., and died 1818 in Missouri. He married MARY (MOLLY) MARCHANT 1763 in Goochland Co., VA.. ! Notes for WILLIAM HANCOCK: WILLIAM HANCOCK son of Benjamin Hancock (Source: WFT Vol 7 Pedigree # 451.) was born Abt. 1739 in Goochland County, Virginia (Source: WFT Vol 7 Pedigree # 451.), and died 1818 in Missouri. He married MARY "MOLLY" MERCHANT (Source: WFT Vol 7 Pedigree # 451.) Abt. 1763 in Goochland County, Virginia (Source: WFT Vol 7 Pedigree # 451.). ! William b ca 1739: A Rev. War soldier. Served with Boone in Kentucky. He was captured by Shawnee Indians, escaped, then fought in siege of Fort Boone. Testified against Boone in Boone's court martial. West to Missouri with Boone. See "Hancock Brothers of Virginia", by Maureen Hancock Ward. ! William Hancock was a Rev. War Soldier and also served in the militia, probably with Capt. Charles Watkins Company that went to the aid of Daniel Boone at Ft. Boonesborough. Richard Wade was also in this Company of Militia, as were his brothers, George and Steven. They were all captured with the salt makers at Blue Licks by the Indians led by Old Blackfish. After escaping the Indians, and defending the Fort while it was under seige, William testified at the court-martial of Boone, but they later apparently became friends, since William went to Missouri with Boone, and died there. ============================================================ !Stephen HanDcock, soldier in Col. Byrd's Regt., in 1760, Kentucky Co., February 1, 1780 ! He was a Revolutionary War soldier and fought with Boone. He was captured along with Boone, his brother William and brother-in-law Richard Wade while gathering salt near Ft. Boone. He escaped and returned to Ft. Boone and was at Ft. Boone during the seige of the fort. He testified at Boone's Court Martial. ! Several years after Boone and brother William went to MO, Stephen and most of his family followed. ! "Hancock Brothers From VA" by Maureen Ward Hancock gives a full accounting of Stephen and many references. ============================================================= BobHop Visit our home page http://bobhopkins0.tripod.com/ Major family names- Abel, Adams, Anders, Bellisfield, Brock, Byers, Davis, Dement, Field, Guffey, Hancock, Hockaday, Hopkins, Irvine, McClanahan, Scarbrough, Shipley, Strother, Stonestreet, Wade, Wampler, Westlake
