Tori, this is how middle name used to work - most of the time. Example: James Hancock marries Suzy Hardee They name their son James Hardee / Hardy Hancock Or there is an important or loved relative, The son or daughter is given the first name of that person as there middle name. In one of my wife's lines almost every male was either James, Charles or William and those that missed out got both of them for good measure. So we get James Charlie, James William, or William Charles, etc. Now if you really want a problem. In Europe, unless you where High Born you did not get a middle name until about 1600 when Tax Collectors had to find a way to improve collections for the kingdom. Middle name could then be your town, your occupation or even the name of the Census/Tax collector.
