Thank you Jean for your note communicating the many direct Hancock descendants to our shared John D. Hancock line through Benjamin's descendants. I was unaware as to the extent of this, and I believe that your assurance will be a relief to others as well as myselt. Thank you also for sharing the details of your Hancock line. I was especially pleased to learn of your husband's participation in the DNA project and I look forward to seeing those results. Do you have any idea how long it will be before they become available? However, I agree with you that it would really be helpful if we could get DNA results from the lines of the other sons of John D., as well. So in that regard, although you've "started the ball rolling" (so to speak), ideally we need to have this kind of assurance from those lines. Jean, I really glad you asked me why I feel it is important to find John's burial location. You very likely have read his will, but if not take a look. Again that information is on page 97 (Acrobat page 101) of the "Jesse Corn Sketches" which can be found at http://www.intp.us/jessecorn. Specifically, I was very touched by the inclusion in the first paragraph of our ancestor's will his request to have a decent burial. Larry speaks to this point within the text that follows the will. I believe that his request would have been honored by his sons, and thus there was probably also a marker. I guess I feel a special reverence towards Johns request for a "decent buries", and hope that it's location could be made known. You may have been confused over the query as you saw it, as the message of mine that you attached didn't contain my original query. In hopes to clarify, let me repeat the text of my original query here: "Looking to ascertain the death and burial location of John D. Hancock. John is said to have died in Patrick County at the house of his son Benjamin. Some further refined the location of Benjamin's house to be in Patrick Springs. Several burial locations are also given for John, as shown in available information on RootsWeb (and elsewhere); e.g. "Patrick Springs", "NW of Patrick Springs", and "on the NE slope of Bull Mountain in Patrick County". With my limited knowledge of that area, it is possible to think that the three separately identified burial locations are all for the same physical location. Does anyone have an understanding that might substantiate, or repudiate, any of the above information." Please let me know, Jean, whether or not the text of my original query makes sense to you now. I guess I don't see the significance of knowing where John D. is buried as I seriously doubt the place of burial could be proven conclusively unless there is a headstone or some record stating where he is buried. I guess I am missing the point of your query. Jean Hancock in TX ... --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software
