I have used a number of genealogy programs, including Ancestral Quest, Family Tree Maker, PAF and several others. I chose PAF5 for the following reasons: 1) Many of these software companies will not be in business a few years from now (some of them probably will not be in business a few days from now). No one can sell millions of genealogy software programs. 2) You can transfer data between the software but you will create many errors. I have personally spent hundreds of hours straightening up the errors created by the last transfer. 3) The LDS Church is likely to be around for a long time and is likely to maintain their software. 4) The price for PAF5 is attractive (it is free). 5) PAF5 is a very good genealogy software.
