Hi Cousins, I found the following note from the 1998 Corn List. The note indicates that source information regarding names and birthdates of this family was found in a bible. Does anyone have this bible, or know its whereabouts? I suspect the bible would have originally been Jesse & Nancy's, but that also isn't clear from the information below. If we could find this bible, perhaps it would clear up a some open questions regarding their family, such as when their youngest son, George Thomas Corn, died. Any information regarding the bible that is referenced below would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any thoughts, Tom Melton - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - On Wed, 23 Sep 1998 15:07:21 -0500 "theshadow" <theshadow@hot1.net> wrote to: CORN-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <005c01bde72d$cb2b5080$a8a6050c@h> Subject: JESSE & NANCY (HANCOCK) CORN again, just snippets Nancy Corn, applied June 26, 1841 from Franklin Co., TN, mentions her "...late husband"; their marriage date "...in Feb. 1780"; his death date "...Mch. 5, 1809, Patrick Co., Va." and Nancy's death date "...at home of her dau. Hi Tom, Well, I had to go back into my Hancock file to find out where I did get that Bible information. I thought I knew but wanted to verify it. The Bible information came from a Bible Record ("The New Testament, Edinburgh, 1800 in Jesse Corn's handwriting) according to Gary Cornn (he spells his name with 2 "n"s) via email gcornn@yahoo.com, August 27, 1998. I also relied upon a lot of information that Dr. Bob Hopkins generously shared with me about the Corn family. Another source of information about the Corn family cemetery was received by me from Larry D. Christiansen LCandBC@aol.com and a Virginia Web Site: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/patrick/cemeteries/corn1.txt on 6-16-01. Additional Source on Corn Family: Lorna Corns-Workman pworkman@newwave.net WebPage: http://www.newwave.net/~pworkman/lorna.htm According to Gary Cornn (he spells his name with 2 "n"s) via email gcornn@yahoo.com, August 27, 1998, George was not named in his father's estate records of 1809. I have the notation that he is buried in the Corn-Stovall cemetery and that he probably died prior to his father's death in 1809. If you wish, I'll be glad to send you all the information that I have collected on the Corn family. However, please understand that this is information that I have not personally researched but have gotten from various sources both from the Corn side and the Hancock side. My guess would be that since Nancy Corn died at the residence of Mrs. Mary Sharp, her daughter, near Winchester on June 17, 1848 that the Bible was passed down through Mary Sharp's line as that is usually the way of things today. Since so many of the Corn children married members of the Sharp family I'm sure they all felt they had a part of the Bible. Mary was not the oldest dtr. but she was the one Nancy was living with when she died. Hope this gives you some leads to search for the Bible.
