    2. Hello list: I must be crazy! If I am totally confused please help me out here...Let me take another stab at this. I only mentioned FTM, (which is owned by Ancestry.com), as the program I use. I explained that I copy my file and convert it to GEDCOM, and then send it to Rootsweb.com, where it is posted, and is very easily updated. We have discussed this before. But following are Rootsweb's own policy statements: "RootsWeb.com, Inc. is NOT responsible for the content of the GEDCOMs uploaded through the WorldConnect Program. If you have a problem with a particular entry, please contact the submitter of said entry. Unlike with certain other Web sites, you have full control over your GEDCOM. You can change or remove it completely at any time and RootsWeb will never burn it onto a CD-ROM or charge others to access it." "RootsWeb will neither sell nor charge for access to your genealogical information (for example, your posts to RootsWeb mailing lists or message boards, your Web pages hosted at RootsWeb, and any datasets you have donated to RootsWeb or the USGenWeb Archives) without your permission.RootsWeb will not under any circumstances sell or give away a list of our users' postal addresses or e-mail addresses." >From the above, it is clear that THEY WILL NOT SELL THE INFO! Of course, any info which is posted on the net can be copied. This includes any info we post at the Hancock Project, whether we use Rootsweb or the current format. And any info that can be copied can also be sent to companies like Ancestry.com, and sold on CDs. I don't see any difference here. If this is the case, why not use the quickest and easiest way? Once you have your info in GEDCOM format you can easily do all kinds of things with it. After hearing some of the comments, I still think we should consider doing this. We can keep the Hancock website pretty much as it is, showing documents such as wills, etc., but we could change it so that each Hancock line is handled by one person. We can use Rootsweb to post each line. This way, the person in charge enters all the info on that line into his/her own program, then converts it to GEDCOM and sends it in to Rootsweb, updating when necessary. Each line is simply accessed from the Hancock website by a link. HELP! Jim Hancock
