Through your diligent work, that bit of lore is now history. You may be interested that I found some researchers who referred to Thomas as John Thomas. I have additional information on Elias Henderson Hancock. He had two children born before the 1850 Census in North Carolina and five born after 1850(2 in N.C. and 3 in Mo). I am Elias Henderson Hancock's GGGrandson by his son Benjamin Franklin Hancock. Family records show Elias Henderson Hancock show the children as follows: Mary J. Hancock b: 1848* - N.C. Abner P. Hancock b 1849* - N.C. John J Hancock b 1852* - N.C. Benjamin F. HANCOCK b: 1856 in Ashboro, N.C. d. 17 mar 1940- Kingfisher Ok Minerva A. b: 1859* - Mo William H. b: 8 Dec 1860 - Mo Robert Lee b 1863 - Mo Elias Henderson Hancock is listed in the 1850 Census of Ashboro N.C. It shows Mary, age 65, living with Henderson and Vina along with Mary J. and Abner Also living next door is Mahalia age 39 with three children. She is probably Abners wife Mahalia Cox M 14 feb 1832. Between 1856 and 1859 the Elias Henderson and John P family moved to Laclede Co.
