Thanks, Bob, Has anyone researched this Thomas? Where did he come from? Could this be the unknown ancestor of so many who seem to connect via Y-DNA? Certainly there were other lines coming from Thomas and his son, Thomas. Is anymore known about Robert? This Thomas HANCOCK could have been here in early York Co. and family spread out from there. I think Lisa said that Benjamin Hancock (wf/Mary Beadles) of Hanover Co., VA was said on a CD to be descended from a John Hancock of York Co., VA, but of course no proof. If true, could the two Thomases and John have been somehow related? Boy, lots of things to digest here! Anyone have any facts or resources that they can add to this line or information. Thomas Hancock, d bef 1698 ....Thomas Hancock, liv York Co. 1662; patented land New Kent Co., VA 1666; 1702 King William Co., VA land grant; m (1) Winifred ??? & m (2) widow of James Bond .......Robert Hancock In looking at county formation and knowing the early migration may help us. Since I can connect our HANCOCK line migration to Hanover, Orange, & Louisa, this is what I find. Charles River County, origial 1634 became York Co. 1642 New Kent County, was formed in 1654. King & Queen County was formed from New Kent in 1691. New Kent, became county seat in 1691. New Kent was once formed part of Charles River County 1634 (became York Co.-1642), and orgininally included part or all of King & Queen, King William, Spotsylvania and Hanover. Then came these splits: Hanover Co., Louisa Co., & Orange Co., VA are adjacent counties. Hanover County formed 1720 from New Kent Co., VA. Orange County formed 1734 from Spotsylvania Co., VA. Louisa County formed 1742 from Hanover Co., VA. Wonder where this will take us...to more dead ends probably! Thomas (Jr)'s wife was named Winnifred and he later married the widow of James Bond. Walter Hopkins said, in his book, that John D Hancock 172-1802 was probably a descendant of Thomas but that he had found no proof that was so. BobHop Visit our home page http://bobhopkins0.tripod.com/
