    3. Hi, I haven't had a lot of luck with Thomas Grimes. I did find a Thomas Grimes born in KY, in the 1860 census age 6 in a household with an Allen Owens family. Pg. 768 Warren Co. Bowling Green P.O. Box, IN. That doesn't mean he wasn't there, sometimes these indexes are so specific. For instance, on this one, if you type in Thomas, you don't get any of the abbreviations like Thos. or Tom. So I will keep looking. Do you know where he was born, or any other info about him, or if he was called by any other names ? I had a little more luck with Ellizabeth. In the 1860 Indiana census in Johnson County, Blue River Twp. P. 613 roll 271 there was a Hancock, Robert 45 Farm Laborer b. NC , Nancy 27 b. KY , John 17 serving? b. KY , Benjamin 11 b. IN , Lewis 5 b. IN , Elizabeth 3 b. IN Then again in the Johnson County IN census 1870 but this time in the Pleasant Twp, Pg. 394 there was a Elizabeth Hancock 14 Domestic Servant b. IN living with a James Howard family. There was also a Lizzie Hancock 13 listed at home in the 1870 Monroe County IN Beanblossom Twp p. 283 living with a Johnson Kegly family. I am wondering if her parents died or what happened to them. I will keep looking. I couldn't find the Robert Hancock in Indiana in 1870, but he could just be in a different state. I will keep looking. I hope this helps. Becky At 10:47 PM 9/1/2003 -0700, you wrote: >No I don't have access to an index, I've been searching page by page. 3. Becky, Thanks very much for going to all this trouble for me. Thomas was living with his mother Mary (Hack) Grimes' family in 1860 in Fountain Co. Indiana The head of household was George Hack. His father John L Grimes was not listed and could have been dead, but I don't think so because the census line where John's name should have been is blank, Since no lines are to be skipped within one household by census takers, it is my oppinion that the line was left blank when the census was transcribed because it probably was not legible. Had he been dead the line woul not have existed. I don't know for sure who John L.'s father was but I'm relatively sure it was Leonard Grimes. Thanks very much for the info on Elizabeth. I will keep both of them and hope that maybe we can find something for certain. I don't know about when Robert and Nancy died or if Nancy remarried after Robert died as she was much younger than Robert. If William Hancock turns out to be the right one then his wife Sally died in 1872 just two years before Elizabeth and Thomas married. The Robert Hancock family and the William Hancock family are the only two I know of in Indiana that fits the criteria of both of Elizabeth's parent's . I know that a Indiana was plagued with Diptheria around that time and literally hundreds of people died of it. Many more moved away. A lot of Indianan's moved to Iowa around that time too, and some moved to Kansas others to Illinois. Then there was also the Indian uprisings. It is really amazing what all our ancesters had to endure, isn't it. Thank you again and I really do appreciate your help. God be with you. Have a beautiful day. V.
