I'm trying to find information on my ancestors in Halifax county Va. My great grandfather was Samuel S. Hancock who was born 1826 in Halifax county, Va. His mother was named Catherine. I have never been able to find who her husband was, or who her parents were. Several other descendants of Catherine's have been searching for years with the same results. My DNA test have linked me to other Va. Hancocks ( Benjamin and William, York, Hannover counties) but no links to Halifax county. Any help here would be appreciated. Can you provide more information, such as the spouse of Samuel Hancock or kids he had? I found a Samuel Hancock in the 1870 census for Stannton (sp?), Halifax, Virginia. There is a Kitty listed in the household with a birth date about 1799. Kitty very well could be a nickname for Catherine.
