    3. Can anyone tell me which group Thomas Hancock (b about 1785 d Feb 24, 1841) sheriff of Randolph CO NC 1826-27 is a apart of? -----Original Message----- From: hancock-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:hancock-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Audrey Shields Hancock via Sent: Thursday, August 13, 2015 9:33 AM To: hancock@rootsweb.com Subject: [HANCOCK] Hancock DNA--Group 3 (Pink) Wow...Group 3 has expanded greatly since I looked at it last year. If anyone belongs to this group, you may wish to check on this site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hancockgroup3/Chart3-DNA-H OME.html I know that my husband descends from Capt. John Hancock, s/o Benjamin Hancock & Mary "Polly" Beadles of early Hanover Co. and Louisa Co., VA. Other DNA participants with the same DNA have shared their lineage line from their earliest known ancestor. We do not know how the many lines interconnect, but they certainly must in some way. There certainly must have been an early HANCOCK individual or family group which probably settled in Virginia, and spread out from there. There were probably others who immigrated later having the same DNA. With so many lost and unrecorded notes/records in early Colonial Virginia it is most difficult to track the family. So many of our connections are lost to time. If you are of this group and wish to share your line and historical detail that you might know, please let me know, and I would be happy to add your information to the above site or the links connected to it. 3. The Groups signify which DNA group the men match when participating in a DNA Project. Has anyone in your HANCOCK line participated in the HANCOCK DNA Project. If so, that could be a hint of a possible relationship. Until one is tested there is no way for certainty that he would be a descendant of a specific group. Even some who were reared with a specific family group and believe themselves to be a descendant of a specific family, find that somewhere along the line a significant event took place that they were unaware of or the family kept secret: adoption, illegitimacy, a child keeping the mother's maiden as his surname, an alias, etc. DNA testing validates the group to which one is related.
