    1. Re: [HANCOCK] Hoping that all is well.
    2. Lisa, I still haven't found the book but the index is online and there are only three John Hancock in North Carolina. One applied for a pension in Montgomery County, NC. One is the heir of Isaac Hancock and the third is John of Craven and Carteret, the son of James Hancock and Tamar Jones. He applied for and received a pension. In it he states that he was born in Craven County, NC on 14 October 1763. When called into service, he lived in Craven County, NC and continued to reside there until he removed to Carteret County, NC in 1787 and where he now resides (1833). He married Elizabeth Shepard who died in 1799 and then married her sister, Hannah Shepard who applied for a pension after John died in Jones County, NC on 24 February 1838. His brother, James, served with him. They both joined at the same time in New Bern and their voucher numbers are only 2 numbers apart. He isn't the brother of Samuel. As you, probably, know. James Hancock, Sr. deed land to his four sons William, Roger, James and John and where they sold that land they were called William of Craven, Roger of Craven, James of Jones and John of Carteret. My guess is that he was there with some part of his family, much in the same situation as his brother Samuel who was in GA learning a trade from his uncle. Since their dad died when they were young, it would make sense that different parts of the family was helping with them. The John that enlisted in Craven County is the brother of Samuel, and son of John and Martha Hancock. Samuel and John had a brother William and a sister Ann.
