Looking back at my material after a very long period of time, I realized that John J is probably not mine. This is how I think our line goes and much of it is from Lisa back in 2003. This will be old news to some of you but perhaps there are new people that will not have this information. Those of you have been in this research may have by now discovered some new and would be willing to share it. If there is any male of this line that would be willing to do the DNA I would be willing to help with the cost. NEHEMIAH Hancock (Revolutionary Military Papers, NC State Archives, Raleigh NC folder 282). He was married to Grace. He had a brother David Hancock who died in the Rev. War. Nehemiah was in Hertford Co and when he died in the Rev. War while living there. Where did Nehemiah & David come from and who were their parents? He had a son JOHN HENRY HANCOCK b. abt 1760 in NC according to an family member. Years ago, an deceased elderly relative ( I am closer to 80 than 70 so it was a LONG time ago) told me that his grandmother told him over and over that John Henry Hancock was the father of John Thomas Hancock b about 1785 in Randolph Co NC. John Henry Hancock was married to Rhoda Vegas. They had 2 children: Martha and John Thomas Hancock. JOHN THOMAS HANCOCK b. about 1785 in NC and died abt 1851. He was married to Mary Saunders about 1810. He paid taxes in Randolph Co NC in 1815. He was the sheriff in Randolph Co NC 1826-27 and served in NC House of Representatives in 1828-29. Their children were: VIRGINIA HANCOCK ABNER P HANCOCK 6-22-1811 Randolph Co NC d 3-10- 1846 married to Mahala Cox 2-14-1832 My gr gr grandfather JOHN PIPKIN HANCOCK b about 1816 Randolph Co NC d 8-12-1884 Pocahontas, Randolph Co AR. He and Minerva Ann Elliott migrated from Randolph Co NC to Lebanon, Laclede Co MO in the fall of 1856 crossing the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau MO. John Pipkin Hancock was a shoe maker and so did not serve in the Confederate army because he was busy making shoes for them. After Minerva Ann died, he moved to Randolph Co AR. Carolyn, I need to do some more digging.....I think I've got pictures of some graves of your Hancocks that stayed in NC. I had forgotten about them until I saw your post. I will let you know what I find.
