Would be interested in learning of the research history and ancestry of William Hancock and his wife, Mary Reynolds, who appear in Saline County, Illinois and are contemporaries of James Clayton Hancock who married Amy Reynolds and who also appear in Saline County, Illinois circa 1850. Two descendants of James Clayton Hancock and one descendant of his brother, Clark William Hancock participated in the HANCOCK DNA Project and are related to each other and other DNA Participants of Group 3. Both James & Clark are said to have been born in Hamilton Co., TN. Undocumented sources indicated James Clayton Hancock & Clark William Hancock are perhaps sons of Lewis Hancock & wife, Rebecca Vandergriff, but no proof. Ancestry.com family files show that William Hancock (wf, Mary Reynolds) was s/o Simon Hancock & Ann Turpin; gs/o Simon Jefferson Hancock & Martha Jane Flournoy; & g-gs/o Samuel Hancock & Johann Hancock; gg-gs of William Hancock & Elizabeth Cockcroft, but I do not know if their lineage is represented by DNA testing of a descendant, so this ancestry could be incorrect for William Hancock (wf, Mary Reynolds).
