Hello. I’m sorry tohear of the passing of Dale Hancock. I’ma recent member of the Hancock Digest. Iam still actively researching my 3rd great-grandmother, Zianah(Hancock) Porch Davis (abt 1806 Virginia – 20 Mar 1884 Sedgwick County,Kansas). She was first married toWilliam Porch on 9 Jan 1830 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. They settled briefly in Crab Orchard, Kentuckybefore moving to Indiana and then to Illinois. After William died, she moved to Kansas and married AlexanderDavis. I recently had a DNA test donethrough Ancestry.com and I have links to the Porch family of Stafford County,Virginia with connections to the Jett, Berry, Curtis, Payne, Limbrick, andBurton families. Without moreinformation on Zianah’s family, I haven’t been able to establish moreconnections to her. I hope that everyone has a great new year. – Kimberly Porch, 2539 Weymouth Dr., High Ridge, MO 63049 -----Original Message----- From: hancock-request <hancock-request@rootsweb.com> To: hancock <hancock@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sat, Dec 29, 2012 5:29 pm Subject: HANCOCK Digest, Vol 7, Issue 11 Today's Topics: 1. Odessa & Helene and I decided that since we haven't heard from many of our Hancock friends here on the Hancock list in a long while, it is time that we all checked in and said hello and maybe you will give us an update on what is happening with you and yours. I am the same (just a lot older). Still doing genealogy research as often as possible, among other hobbies and have 10 grandchildren to keep me hopping. Julia French Wood Hancock list Adm. I am descended from their daughter Susannah who married Charles Moreland Oct 22, 1790. I would be very pleased to exchange information. I am very sorry to hear about Dale Hancock's dying. He was an excellent genealogist and a very nice fellow. Eldon J. John Hancock of Montgomery Co, NC, I have found no new information in a while. John had 2-3 wives, and many children, some of whom, move west and some who stayed in NC. He was born in 1760 in VA, served in the Rev War, was ordained by Bishop Asbury after the Rev. War, some of his Children were (1) Betsy who married Etheldred Clemmons,(2) Mary who married John New, (3)Westly Hancock, (4) Sarah who married Spencer New, (5) Martha who married John Andrews, (6) Tabitha who married Kennith Hearne, (7) Piety who married Wilson Scarbrough, all of these children went west with there husbands, children who stayed in Montgomery co were (8) Nancy who married Wiley Harris, (9) Lucy who married Wiley Scarbrough, (10) Priscilla, who married Edmund Andrews, I am not sure where these sons went, if they stayed or moved away.(11) Elisha Hancock, (12) Frances Hancock, (13) Eli Hancock, These children are all mentioned in the Fayetteville Observer, in 1835, after John died. Anyone with information, please contact me. My Hancock connection and interest began when I discovered a Hancock family had farmed near my Wm P Stone ancestor in the area of St Joe, on the Buffalo R. in Searcy Co, AR around 1870 and thereafter. Two Hancock sons married Stone daughters. John m. Mary Etta and James m. Martha. I primarily traced the John and Mary Etta branch as it went west to Oregon, taking along GrGrandfather Wm P Stone. Other surnames crossing the Stone paths in that era were Smith and Cruse. An Interesting family. ron in CA On 12/29/2012 12:35 PM, JULIAFWOOD@aol.com wrote: > Dear Hancock family, > > I have just received a notice that our dear friend, Dale Hancock, of > Mississippi passed away on December 17th and know that many of you would want to > know. > > Odessa & Helene and I decided that since we haven't heard from many of our > Hancock friends here on the Hancock list in a long while, it is time that > we all checked in and said hello and maybe you will give us an update on > what is happening with you and yours. > > I am the same (just a lot older). I'm still working on the Randolph and Montgomery Co, NC Hancocks as time allows. Still very interested in finding all I can on these folks. Like Julia, I'm still the same, except a bit older. I have one daughter that will be leaving for Parris Island, SC soon, as she begins her journey of becoming a US Marine. While I'm very proud of her, I ask all of you to say a prayer for her safety. My other daughter is working long hours, as do I. Lea, any info you have on John Hancock in Montgomery Co would be welcomed by me, as John is the brother of my ancestor, Samuel. I wish everyone the best new year possible!! Annie and I have been "retired" from genealogy research for quite some time. Now well into our eighties and slowing down a bit. I still have my database and refer to it rather frequently. I do miss the days when we had so many cousins actively sharing information and helping each other. Thanks for your excellent leadership over the years. I extend greetings and best wishes to all the cousins for a healthy and productively 2013.? I am still grateful to Lisa for helping me finding Nehemiah who was living in Hertford county in 1790! His grandson Thomas was sheriff in Ashboro NC in 1826 and went on to serve in house of representatives in 1828. Anyone connected to this family? Maybe this will be a "break the brick wall" year!
