I'll put together a run-down on Samuel for you. I went to the library in Troy several years ago and found some interesting land deeds involving the Hancock's. I do have a question...do you have anything on Martin Hancock? He caught my eye, as he could be a son of Samuel that I had overlooked...unless he was a son of John. I know John had lots of children! I am here - overwhelmed - but here. I am amazed to see so many "familiar" names here since I haven't been in contact in years - I am so grateful for those of you who are steadfast in your searches. I get bogged down with questions and information and just back out of "it" for a while - ha - a while has been years. I am in Jasper, TX and claim kin to most all of the Hancocks here - I don't know how I can help, or if I can help, or even if you can depend on my help - but for the time I am here for the roll call. Again, thanks to all of you who have been so determined in your searches and for being so willing to share. Lea, I'll send the info I have on Samuel later this week. One interesting thing I found in John's Rev. War file is that he enlisted in Craven County, NC. Why was he in Craven County? Samuel was in Augusta, GA when he enlisted, but he was living with his uncle, Francis Hancock. And Samuel moved to Montgomery Co., NC in 1792. Who was the Samuel Hancock in Montgomery Co, NC in the 1790 census? Question after question....never ending with this group of Hancocks!! Hi, well I thought Samuel of Montgomery co. was Rev. John Hancock's brother, who came here first and then John came, so I really don't know. And its possible that his brother William was here too. Hey Lisa & Lea: Was going to comment here futher; will just hold until I hear from you. You state that Samuel of Montgomery in his Rev Papers states he was in Augusta, GA with his Uncle, Francis. Have these papers in front of me now; however, in none of these do I see the name Francis mentioned. I do see the statement regarding living with his Uncle in Augusta. I have been working on Francis Hancock of SC/GA for years but seen nothing relating to this. Please, would or could one of you, tell me where the source is for showing the name Francis. Most appreciated.
