Hi Thomas, The name Francis Marion comes from the famous Revolutionary War General, nicknamed the Swamp Fox. I have a ggrandfather named Francis Marion Morgan whose line I am stuck on because I have found 15 fellows named Francis Marion Morgan and all are the same age. Good luck in figuring out which is yours. Maybe someone on the Hancock list will have some help for you. Julia In a message dated 6/25/2012 4:52:28 P.M. Hi Thomas, I have a Francis Marion Hancock but he was born in Maryland so I'm not much help. Early on in my research someone told me he was a she and that kinda threw me a bit until I double checked the census's. He would be my 2nd great Uncle. Tom, where is Gridley California? I was born and raised in California and I don't have a clue where that is. I do know Highway99 though. Good luck with your search. Sally , Thanks ;-) As far as I can tell there are two 2 Francis Marion Hancock s in a Civil war Cemetery in Gatlin Tennessee one from Missouri and one from East Tennessee. They are supposed to be burid just a few graves away from each other. One fought for the North the other the South. When I went to Ancestry.Com the one from MO is to have been in TN. Francis Marion Hancock would have been my 2nd Great Grandfather. Gridley, CA is abt 65 miles from Sacramento. Thanks for You help Tom Hancock On Mon, Jun 25, 2012 at 4:46 PM, Sally Bender <nanaof5plusone@gmail.com>wrote: > Hi Thomas, > I have a Francis Marion Hancock but he was born in Maryland so I'm not much > help.
