NO I mispoke! SORRY!Odessa’s Isom was NOT Nancy’s son . Isham Harbid Hancock WAS and was born 1827 in St. Clair Co.,AL and died before his mother in Greensborough, Arkansas in 1861; If I under stand these documents correctly. This means my Isham is from one of the male Josiah “J” Hancock’s siblings and I need to be looking in Northampton, NC. Chesterfield was mentioned in one document so Leonard may be of help as well. I will try to type up the document as there seems no way to copy it. If Lisa can find it in the NC estate records, possibly she can find the backward page .
I’ve been working on a Josiah Hancock from NC who married Nancy Goodwin in Franklin Georgia. A Henry B. Hancock(evidently his son but not hers?) was involved in a probate in Northampton Co. NC and of the 5 partial pages that are shown, one is reversed. Josiah is referred to as Josiah John “J” Hancock. In the 1850 census Nancy and family were in Arkansas with Henry B. Then back to Talladega, AL. Odesssa’s Isom that I thought was my Isham was Nancy’s son by Josiah as her probate lists 2 of his children as being her grandchildren and his children. In her probate he is listed as Isham. This is foun d on Macavo, a search engine on line. Helene

I have gone through my files and I don't think ur line came through NC. Possibly with my best guess being a descendant of John Hancock of Randolph Co NC. Some of his children moved to TN and then to Arkansas. I will keep looking as I've got lots more files to go through... Thank you, Ladies, for taking your valuable time to help Ron to find his Hancock family. Now, I am back to tax returns. Have a great weekend. Julia In a message dated 3/15/2014 1:33:34 P.M. Central Daylight Time, blueoak@ix.netcom.com writes: St Joe (not Joseph in AR apparently) is a small town along the Buffalo River in Searcy Co. AR. I first searched there when chasing my grgrandpa, William Pitchford Stone, b 1844, Forsyth Co, GA. He and wife Sarah Elizabeth Christopher Stone, moved there from Blount Co, AL after 1866 when his side lost in the Civil War. Brothers Francis Asbury Stone and James Stone moved to Boone Co, adjacent to Searcy Co. Their father, Wiley Stone, b 1806, SC and wife Candace Buckner Stone, moved with them. The Stone neighbors were the James Clayton Hancock family and farmed alongside the Stone place. So James Hancock m Mary Etta Stone and James picked Martha. There is a PBS video tape of the Buffalo these days called "The Buffalo Flows". It is a fine introduction to this scenic river. I have never seen it but would like to very much. Audrey, you may remember that years ago we met when I was explaining how I was trying to offer a prize to the student in the high school in Dufur, OR who found the gravesite for William Pitchford Stone and wrote a short essay of what could be discovered locally about this veteran of the 28th AL Inf. I lamented that the high school history teacher didn't see my effort in the spirit intended. As I recall you were sympathetic. I will pass along all the comments here to my Hancock - Creel cousins up there in OR. Yes we did find Wm P's unmarked grave through the efforts in Dufur of the "Daughters" , an organization honoring the history of the south. They assisted in getting an appropriately marked grave marker and we put on a dedication that was very jolly for descendants numbering up to a hundred in the Odd Fellows Cemetery on a hillside in that rolling farm country about 15 miles south of The Dalles along a "cut off" trail originated by those who wanted to quit the Columbia and head overland to the lush valleys to the south. ron in CA On 3/15/2014 10:56 AM, Audrey Shields Hancock wrote: > Ron, > For those who tested and are in Chart 3 Group, you may wish to visit this > website and the links thus included on the site. > > http://tinyurl.com/9kn89gw > > Audrey > > > -----Original Message----- > From: hancock-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:hancock-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of JULIAFWOOD@aol.com > Sent: Saturday, March 15, 2014 10:49 AM > To: hancock@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [HANCOCK] Hancock DNA-Attn: Ron...James Clayton Hancock & > AmyReynolds > > > Thanks, Audrey, I knew I had heard those names before: I checked my old > files from our original DNA Website and here is what I have from the 3 > persons who tested from that line: > > Note: I would be interested in what County of Arkansas, is the town of > St. Joe. St Joe (not Joseph in AR apparently) is a small town along the Buffalo River in Searcy Co. Joe. If Ron is nr Sacramento Valley, a descendant of James named Rodger Hancock was living in Marysville Ca a few years ago. I am in Boston, but would happily contribute to cost of a DNA test if RH is willing... Good luck to all! Well, my great great grandfather, Frederick William Hancock, who was born in New Bern, Craven County, NC had a brother, John Hancock, who moved to Shelby County, TN at the same time that Frederick moved to Haywood County, TN, next door. I followed John and / or his descendants for a short way and I believe they were in Searcy County, AR. Do you have an clues, like from Census records as to where they say their parents were born. You aren't giving enough details for me to be able to help. I need some dates and where they were and when. Julia In a message dated 3/14/2014 8:55:19 P.M.
