Les, I am looking for a Wm M. HANCOCK that was an adult in 1795 Rowan Co, NC and gone by 1800. Some of the extended family went on to Gaston Co, NC; Monrow and Knox Cos, TN early in 1800s. Any hopes? Hi Bob Hop and Gene, Thanks so much for you info and help. I passed along what you sent to Patsy. I know she is very grateful for the help. You guys are great! Jean
Hello Cousin Jim: Your Hancock lineage is very interesting! Would like to know where are your Hancock family is from. I am descended from the Hancocks of VA (Surry/Sussex Cos.) and GA (Wilkes, Greene, Hancock & Wilkinson Cos.). I also have a Strother connection from VA (Stafford Co.), SC (Barnwell Co., SC and GA (nr. Augusta, Richmond Co., GA). Researching all the other related families you mentioned. Hi Gene- Thanks for the note on Judith Hancock. It is strange that somebody as famous as George Rogers Clark is not better documented and how brother William is over shadowed by Lewis? It's all in how the historians write their history I guess. BobHop
Thanks Karen. I am not sure Presidents had been invented yet? (I hope not because my wife's father's name was Clinton!!) BobHop

Think about who was president at the time. My uncle Wilson Hancock was born in 1924 when Woodrow Wilson was president. Karen
Would everyone please share their information from obits from the new's and from Vital papers and Bible's . We stash those item's away and there is such good information that can be obtained from them . I have started shareing mine and I will continue as I find them in my file . I do hope that other's will do the same . Shareing stories about, or from Hancock's, would allso be nice. Most of us have some little thing that an elder told them ,or even reciepies from an elder that has been passed down in the family, would be nice. Just a thought, hope you don't mind. Wishing you good health and a rainbow day, Minnie Ann Jesus , A Never Ending Friend !
Bob, I found this on a web page and thought it was interesting. William Clark had married Julia "Judith" Hancock, for whom he named a river in Montana; been respected as Indian agent (Native Americans called St. Louis the "Red-Headed Chief's Town"); successful in business; and several times appointed governor of the Missouri Territory (though he lost the first election to be the new state's governor, after being accused of being too "soft" on Indians). On this date he dies at the home of his eldest son, Meriwether Lewis Clark. Judith Hancock was a cousin of Captain William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. He named the river for her and later married her ... Gene E. Hancock

You may get an answer to this one eventually.I remember about a year ago there was a long discussion about webbed fingers on Hancock line. You should try to find William in 1900 census in Ill..It should give place of birth. Good luck.Tamara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charlotte Terbot" <turbobutterfly@hotmail.com> To: <HANCOCK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 04, 2001 5:32 PM Subject: [HANCOCK-L] Lost Hancock > Hello: I am looking for a connection for my GGrandfather who was William > Hancock m. to Ruth Haygood (sp?). Hello: I am looking for a connection for my GGrandfather who was William Hancock m. to Ruth Haygood (sp?). They were in Southern IL around 1900 and in Dexter, MO in 1903- Where my grandfather was born on Oct. 17, 1903. They had seven children, including (not in order) Ulan, Clyde, William Marcus, Ethal, Mac (mackenzie?); Marie, and Lena. My GGrandfather did not tell of his background except for this story. When he was a young man, he had an older brother John, who had a really nice handle-bar mustache. William (Bill) caught JOhn asleep under a shade tree and put a big glob of chicken manure in the mustache. John had to shave off the mustache because he could not get all of the stink out. John told his mom that he would kill his brother Bill if he ever found him. When Bill came home his mom told him to leave, which he did. We know that Bill married Ruth Haygood, (Haywood), she was possibly from KY, TN, or IL. The older children were born in IL, (don't know what town) then they moved to MO, then to AR. We also know that Bill had webbed fingers and/or small size on his left hand, but that he also lost his hand in an accident when he was either an older teenager or young man in his early twenties. That is all we know of his and his wife Ruth. Is any one missing one of these people or know of the webbed finger and small hand feature on the Hancock side? Thank you. >>Don't I remember that there was a female Hancock (Judith?) who was md. to George Clark?<< Jean- There was a Judith Hancock and she married a brother of George Rogers Clark. (William of Lewis & Clark fame.) General George Rogers Clark was unmarried. I can send what I have if nobody else responds. BobHop
Alvis- Do you know where the name "Wilson" may have come from? In my line I have two different "Wilsons" as a given name. I do not recall my line and yours as being the same? (I am from the Goochland/Patrick bunch in VA.) Thanks. BobHop
Hi Folks, Don't I remember that there was a female Hancock (Judith?) who was md. to George Clark? Is there anyone on the list who has this line and can help this lady? She is on my Dickson, TN list.
