    3. Hello-- Received copy of my great-grandfather's Social Security application form today. Says his employer in 1937 was W.P.A. project 4238. Research shows W.P.A. stands for Work Projects Administration/Works Progress Administration. I am curious about the project he was working on in La Harpe, Kansas. Does anyone know how can I find information on this project ? Beth Hancock Cross

    2. Beth Hancock Cross
    3. If this email has an attachment. Don't open it !! (Please send an email to geoffc@home.com to inform me the problem has not been fixed. Thanks.) As some of you may know, I had a virus attach itself to my emails. If any of you got this virus, sorry. Here is how to fix the problem: Go to www.McAfee.com and look for the instructions on getting rid of the BadTrans virus/worm. First, you make a backup copy of your Registry and save it to the Desktop (just incase something goes wrong, you can restore the registry -- if everything goes right, you will simply delete the backup copy later) Then, it will tell you how to go into the Registry and delete a file called Kernel32 Then, you go into WIN.INI and delete a line that says RUN= c:\windows\inetd.exe Then you delete file named KERN32.EXE, HKSDLL.DLL, CP_23421.NLS. I could not delete them the way McAfee said to do it, because the programs were being used by Windows and it wouldn't allow deletion. So, I had to go into MS-DOS mode, and go to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and delete them with the DEL command. The McAfee instructions also say to delete a file named HKK32.EXE, but I did not have that one on my computer. Beth Hancock Cross P.S. Jean h. n.--I believe the original message was from BobHop. (The virus attacked all unread email in my inbox. Sent a reply to the sender; changed the name to look like I sent it and attached the virus.)

    1. Re: [HANCOCK-L] mary ann hancock
    2. On the Hancock messages this week, I think I saw a message referring to "Amiss" family connected to the Hancock's in some way. While going through the Eldon Iowa Cemetery Inscriptions book, I came across 2 people by that name: Amiss, Clarinda (Mother) 1847 - 1927, buried in Section I, Row 17, Grave 26 and Amiss, William S (Father) 1844 - 1927, buried in Section 1, Row 17, Grave 25. Obviously, I don't know and can't find the message. I hope someone out there can use the information. Ann

    1. [HANCOCK-L] John D's Rev War service
    2. Debbie Moore
    3. Hi Everybody - When entering information about old John D. [Hancock] in my genealogy program, I realized that all I seem to be able to find about his Rev. War service is that he served as a private, or maybe a Major. There are sources cited on the WWW.Hancock Project but it will be a while before I can check them out, so I was wondering if anybody has any definitive information? Has anybody actually pulled his service papers? I checked the mailing list archives because I thought maybe this had been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything. I don't even know if he was Militia or Continental? (thanks to Mel Gibson and The Patriot, I now know the difference :-) Thanks, Debbie in rather damp Ohio _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
