She was raised by her maternal grandparents. July 4th would be a wonderful opportunity for those of you who know about their Hancock's to educate and share with the rest of us. So tell us about your Revolutionary War soldiers and their service. Tell us the Hancock ancestors we owe our freedom to. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

    3. No Malinda , I received it from a friend on the net who is a devote Southern researcher and is quite eloquent in his writing. I did not post it as a slam to anyone, north south, east or west, black or white. I did address it to my SOUTHERN researcher friends on the list, as I feel more Southern than western. I am not a bigot, we are active politically, are members of national veterns organizations, have friends of all races and work to promote the law of the land and respect for our flag and all that it stands for. It was not meant to start a war, or to create criticism of anyone. Maybe I was taken in and missed the slam but it was not meant to cause hurt to anyone. I sometimes feel the south is neglected when it comes to honoring their dead. My husbands Southern relatives were not honored but buried in unmarked graves I have never been able to find. His Northern ones were marked and with honor. Two were in the same battle and were both wounded and sent home; one from the north and one from the south. My father came to this country because of terrible political problems in his homeland in the 20s. I am proud of my heritage, and feel that the War between the states was a sad commentery on our history. I don't believe that my Christianity or any other religious belief should be brought into question nor anyone elses either. Everyone has a right to free speech. I do APOLOGIZE to the list and would ask that any further discussion be directed to me personally rather than to the list. I would like to request that this subject be dropped. Helene Please remember that this was a carefully crafted piece of propaganda....that Helene did not write (did you Helene ?) It starts with Patriotic sentiments that we can all get behind (the better to get passed on to others)...and the "hooks" don't come until much later. You actually have to spend some time reading the whole thing before they show up. [Remember that political media handlers think we all have the attention span of gnats and/or busy schedules ] Question is...where do these divisive little journalistic bombshells get created ? And what is the agenda ? You can bet they have a purpose and someone got paid (no doubt over-paid to craft this and a whole lot more of these Internet traffic sheets....why ?? Why do they inevitably get released around holiday time ...or when controversial legislation is happening...or a controversial news story is happening ? Did anyone else notice the spate of viri that got released onto the Internet when "some" of the Florida vote re-count results were being released ?? Perhaps it's because my wicked stepfather was OSS, but I smell a rat...and it's certainly not our patriotic Helene ! janiced@texramp.net wrote: > Sorry, I can't let this pass. Godless northern men? 2. I wish I could put my finger on the most beautiful Fourth Of July toast I've ever read. It was used for years in Virginia when all gathered to celebrate our independence. From what I gathered, it was first used shortly after the end of the Revolutionary War and thence for years afterward. The toastmaster would ask all to raise their glasses to the gallant men and women of the original thirteen colonies. Then he would list all the heroes of the war (including the foreign generals like Lafayette), and then Virginia's heroes (Patrick Henry, Washington, Pendleton, Mason, etc.) and our flag and our government and...at last...the beautiful ladies of the Old Dominion. Have a great Fourth. Jerry Rice, Texas

It the South had the majority of men, they would have won the War. And, BTW, I am not on either side of this War at this time, as it is over, (and nobody won) but I had more ancestors on the Southern side, (17 at last count) than I had on the Northern side (only 1). 2. Casey, I am confused, don't you have a contradiction in your message? Are you saying that we do have the right to free speech, or that we don't have the right? Are you saying that we have the right to an opinion, but we don't have the right to an opposing opinion, or to voice an opposing opinion? Or, are you saying that SOME of us have the right to an opinion but others don't? Obviously, you believe that you are one of the people who DOES have the right, and Janice and I are some that DON'T have the right. And, you seem to be in possession of a special right, that of telling the rest of us what our rights are. Where did you get this special right? Not from the Constitution. I am sure that Helene appreciates your coming to her rescue, but she is not in need of protection. I don't think that Janice could bloody her nose from TX. Helene has been one of our group for many years, and has, always, been helpful, friendly, and courteous. That is one reason I was so surprised to see her write something that was so biased, narrow-minded and certain to cause reaction. I am sure she was aware of this when she sent it, and was ready to take any comments. 3. Freedom, and the liberties our founding fathers fought and died for, have nothing to do with the uncivil war. The fact remains, that the majority of those who pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor did indeed come from the southern states.

    3. Free Speech??? If one person does not agree with another persons statement, that does not give them the right to bloody the speakers nose for having been offended by that speach. You have every right to put forth your opinion, whether I or anyone else likes it, because you have a right to free speech. You have no right to tell another what speech is acceptable to yourself. You have every right to ignore it. If you do not like what another says...offer your own version to the public and let them decide for themselves. Back in 1776, was it not this very right that was A BIG problem and a major cause of the war? I think you owe an apology for having attempted to encroach upon her rights to free speach!!!
