The Groups signify which DNA group the men match when participating in a DNA Project. Has anyone in your HANCOCK line participated in the HANCOCK DNA Project. If so, that could be a hint of a possible relationship. Until one is tested there is no way for certainty that he would be a descendant of a specific group. Even some who were reared with a specific family group and believe themselves to be a descendant of a specific family, find that somewhere along the line a significant event took place that they were unaware of or the family kept secret: adoption, illegitimacy, a child keeping the mother's maiden as his surname, an alias, etc. DNA testing validates the group to which one is related. Hello again, Thank you to Eldon and Tom for your interest in helping me. For reference purposes here is what little information that I have on Robert S. Hancock. If any of the names or dates jogs a memory, I will be happy to learn about it. Robert S. Hancock born between 1809 and 1815 in TN, the date varies; the 1850 census from AR shows 1809, but later ones vary. It could be that he was not the one being interviewed in the later ones. In an early census Robert is listed as a carpenter, in a later census he is listed as a farmer. He married Martha, also stated to have been born in TN around 1815 but no maiden name has been found yet, nor is there a date or place of marriage. They had 8 children: 1. Elizabeth 1836 TN m. Thomas Hancock 2. Sarah 1837 TN 3. Eliza 1844 TN m. James Winn, later m. Karnes 4. Nancy Catherine 1846 AR 5. Benjamin Addison 1848 AR m. Lucy Clarke 6. Cynthia 1850 AR 7. Carol Adaline 1853 AR 8. G(eorge) William 1856 AR Roberta
I am descended from Major Hancock who was born about 1745 and married Ann Thomas about 1765. Major's daughter Susannah married my 3rd great grandfather Charles Moreland 22 October 1790 in Goochland County, Virginia. I would be pleased to exchange information. Eldon J. Hello Hancock Family researchers, I am new to your list and would like to take a few moments of your time to tell you a bit about my research goals. Robert S. Hancock, according to the 1850 census, was born in TN about 1809, but the date varies with the census. He lived in AR at least until 1878 because he sold a piece of land which is documented. I can trace him from the present day to that time period but cannot determine who his parents and siblings were. His descendant has joined the HANCOCK DNA project and has taken the Y DNA 111 test. The results placed him in Group 01. There are a few leads and in an effort to understand the potential links I am currently reading your list archives to try to learn some of the research you have already completed. I hope that you will not mind if I ask for direction or answers to my questions. Wishing you a good summer and good luck in your research I send Kind regards, Roberta
