    1. [HANCOCK-L] PRAYERS ARE WORKING, THANKS SO MUCH
    2. Hello, all, I have been waiting for the crucial brain scan on the baby to see if she is improving, and they only do it on Thursday with the results on Friday, and I am very happy to say that Little Alexandra is improving. The hemorrhaging has stopped, but there is still some blood in the brain that must be absorbed (or removed). She is off the feeding IV and digesting her food, her lungs are well inflated and Mom is able to hold her, (which she does for hours everyday). Her weigh is up to a hefty, 2 lbs. 13 oz. And she has the most black hair that I have ever seen. It is over 1/2" long and very thick. Thanks to all of your for your prayers and well wishes. I am sure that they made a difference, as last week she was so sick. My Mom is much better, too, and walking and talking now, although, I have to make her get out of bed, or she would stay there forever. My husband, George had two surgeries last week and is doing great, so I have no complaints and am feel so fortunate to have such wonderful family and friends. Hope all is well with all of you, and Thanks again for your caring. Love, Julia

    3. Hi ya'll, Very interesting theory . I notice, however, that both of you have neglected to factor in the very close relationship between Robert Hancock b abt 1719 who left an Inventory record Mar 1760 Brunswick Co will (WB 3, page 309) as well as numerous Surry/Sussex Co VA land records. Many of these records prominently feature Clement Hancock (d 1758; h/o Antheny). The land records suggest a very close relationship between Robert and Clement...either as brothers or with Robert being a son from a previous marriage. These land records were arduously typed up for the list (by me) from my Aunt's research and reside in the Archives. I would be interested in hearing your view after you have had an opportunity to consider that material. Robert's wife was Elizabeth Doby, by the way. ~malinda > > > > > HANSER5@aol.com wrote: > > > > > Bill Felkner: > > > > > > Great work! 3. My Hancock's that I've been able to trace so far lived in southwestern Va. They came from the Halifax area possible from KY prior. My grandfather, Andrew Ballard Hancock was born in 1895,Bland County,VA. His father, Marcus Walker Hancock was born 1855 Wythe County,Va. Walker's father was George Washington Hancock born in 1833 Cabell,VA.(part of present WVA.)according to his civil war pension application. George's father isn't proven. According to Kegley's Lost children book, George's father was Obediah Hancock. George married Julia Ann Wyrick January,1853. The marriage record is the preacher's return only with parents not listed. No surety is listed prior. George is not listed in the 1850 Wythe census with Obediah's family, the first census listing names other than head of household. George would fit in Obediah's household in the 1840 Wythe census. Does anyone know about Obediah Hancock? Many of the residents of Wythe migrated to Indiana during this time. Are there any Southwestern Va. Hancock researchers on the list? >From: alicia d frank <alicia.df1@juno.com> >Reply-To: HANCOCK-L@rootsweb.com >To: HANCOCK-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [HANCOCK-L] Hansers5 corrections >Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2001 14:37:22 -0400 > >Hello Hansers5: >I read your very interesting item about the VA Hancocks .... > >I know it is a bit far-fetched but I wondered if you know anything about >my line or how I might seek out more about the line f. > >WIlliam Hancock (1756-1841-) and wife, Elizabeth....of >Stoughton-Buxton, MASS >PVT Rev War service , MASS. >Are all of your Hancocks from VA...? He left a wife, our daughter age 29, a 6 month baby and another one on the way in Nov. So I can only imagine how overwhelmed you are. But the Lord knows how much we can bear. God be with you and your family. Cathie

    3. Hi James, Thanks so much for the wonderful response to my question. I certainly appreciate the information. I will review it in detail and correct my records. Although I have been working on my Mother's Hancock line for 6 years now, I would never have found what you sent me. I had only my guess and suggestions from others but no direct evidence like this. Thanks again, do I have any names dates, etc you need?? Best wishes, Bill Felknor billf2k@yahoo.com _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 1. [HANCOCK-L] Re: Hancock correction
    2. Bill Felkner: Great work! While your Generation 4 seems to be in error, I think your research confirms some prior work done on this line, and points to the need for a corrected alignment. You are coming at the line from Robert, b. 1711, while I came at it from his brother George. Awhile back Arvil Hancock and I confirmed the error as shown in the old Hancock family Bible. The Bible record erroneously had George as the father of Robert (b.1679), and George's line going back to Augustine. At the time, I was researching the ancestry of Judith Hancock who married William Clark, the explorer. The error was disclosed in the book Gateway Families. I then did some followup research on George and his wife Mary Jones which confimred the work in Gateway Families. The following info is from "GATEWAY FAMILIES: Ancestors and Descendants of Richard Simrall Hawes, III and Marie Christy Johnson," (1994), by Christy Hawes Bond; edited by genealogist Alicia Crane Williams: An old family Bible belonging to the Hancock family [my note: per Arvil Hancock this Bible was owned by Simon Hancock (1717-1791) and Jane Flournoy, but cannot now be found] and recited by The Johnstons of Salisbury states: "In ye year 1620 William Hancock in search for Forrest for his building of ships, embarked for ye plantations, being one of ye company owners thereof, leaving his familye in England; on ye 22nd of March, 1622 he, with others, was massacreed by ye salvages at Thorpe's House, Berkeley Hundred, fifty miles from Charles city." According to this Bible record, William's son Augustine Hancock came to Virginia in 1630 to claim his father's estate. The Bible lineage continues through Augustine's son William, to his son George, and to Robert Hancock. However, this Bible record was clearly made long after the events given in the above statement, and there is no evidence to support the generations prior to Robert. The Bible does not name Robert Hancock's wife, but lists his sons as Robert, Edward, William, George, Thomas, and Joshua. Margaret Hancock of Henrico and Chesterfield counties, Virginia, made a number of land transactions associating her with men named William, George, Joshua, and Thomas Hancock. This leads us to a Robert Hancock, whose wife was named Margaret, given in Adventurers of Purse and Person. He was a son of Robert and Johan (Ligon) Hancock, and thus a descendant through Col. Thomas Ligon of Edward I, King of England. The progeny of Robert and Margaret Hancock are not identified in Adventurers of Purse and Person, and John Frederick Dorman, co-author of that work, has not made any attempt to trace them. He does state, however, that this identification of the ancestry of Robert Hancock (No. 968) is "more reasonable than the statements in the Bible which refer to persons (Augustine, for instance) who cannot even be found mentioned in any earlier Virginia records which I have checked..." Robert Hancock, son of Robert and Johan, was living in 1729. His family resided in Henrico County, Virginia. On 1 June 1747, William Hatcher of Dale Parish, Henrico County, sold to Margaret Hancock of the same, one hundred acres of land on a branch of Appomattox River called Skinquarter Creek that William had bought from Robert Hancock. Witnesses were Thomas Friend, Thomas Hancock, and George Hancock. On 8 August 1748, William Hancock of Henrico County sold to George Hancock of the same, 350 acres of land "on Beaver Ponds of Swift Creek" that had been purchased from Thomas Richardson in 1744.. On 26 September 1750, Margaret Hancock of Chesterfield County, Virginia, sold to Joshua Hancock of the same county, 140 acres on the north side of Skinquarter Creek next to Creed Haskins and William Robertson. On 1 July 1751 Margaret Hancock and Joshua Hancock of Chesterfield County sold to George Hancock of the same, 141 acres on the north side of Appomattox River adjoining the river and Skinquarter Creek bounded by Christopher Haskins and Creed Haskins, being land granted to Margaret by deed from William Hatcher in 1747. Margaret and Joshua made another deed on 2 August 1751 to Robert Hancock of Chesterfield County for 140 acres on the north side of Appomattox River between the river and Skinquarter Creek, also described as deeded by Hatcher in 1747. On 3 May 1751 Margaret sold to Robert Hancock of Chesterfield County eighty acres on the South side of Swift Creek on Spring Run, next to land owned by William "Akin," John Baw, William Cook, and Henry Clay. Robert sold this land to William "Aikin" on 8 June 1751 and on 5 May 1752 Robert Hancock, now of Amelia County, Virginia, sold to George Hancock of Chesterfield County, the 140 acres that had been granted to him by Joshua Hancock in August of 1751. Data gathered by James R. Hancock from The Filson Club and on location at Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky. Here are some of my notes on Mary Jones, wife of George, born 1724: [The following gathered by James R Hancock]: 1). Abstract of WB 1 P 237 Chesterfield Co., Va... Will of Mary's mother Frances Jones (24 May 1752): "To daughter Mary Hancock, 1 negro To grandson John Cox, 100 acres joining John Farmer and John Booman, and land daughter Mary Hancock lives on To grandson Matthew Cox, 100 acres where I now live To grandaughter Sarah Graves, the Endian Mulato Robin To grandaughter Frances Cox, an Endian mulato named Edward Sturar Rest of estate to above grandchildren Executors- friends William Graves and John Cox Wit: Benjamin Atkins, Brazier Puckett, James Smith" [daughter Mary (Jones) married a Hancock. "John Booman" was likely John Bowman; the executors were likely his son-in-laws]. 2). Henrico Co., Va Deeds 1714-1718, p. 113: "Edward Bowman of Henrico Co., for love and affection to my son Rice Jones and my daughter Frances, of this county, a plantation, now in their possession, on north side of Swift Creek, and an Indian child, Aggy. Dated 1 Aug 1716. Wit: Wm Worsham, Wm Royall, John Bowman Signed: Edw'd (EB) Bowman Recorded 1 Oct 1716." ["my son Rice Jones" must have meant his son-in-law. This shows that Edward Bowman was the father of Frances Bowman, and that she married Rice Jones]. 3). Henrico Co., Va Deeds 1714-1718, p. 111: "Edward Bowman of County & Parish of Henrico, to Rice Jones of same, for L 5, 60 acres on north side of Swift Creek in Henrico Parish, part of 1146 acres granted to John Bolling, Edward Bowman and John Bowman, and bounded by said Edward and Peter Ashbrook. Wit: Wm Worsham, Wm Royall, John Bowman Signe Edw'd (EB) Bowman Recorded 5 Oct 1716." 4). Henrico Co., Va Deeds 1688-1697, p. 42: "Edward Bowman, son and heir of Robert Bowman, late of Henrico Co, dec'd; whereas my father did by his will give to my brother John Bowman, the lower part of his tract of land, which place is called "Old School House," and the word "heirs" was omitted, I confirm to my brother my father's intention. Feb 1688/9 Wit: Jno. Woodson, Joseph Tanner Signed: Edward (EB) Bowman Recorded 1 April 1689." [Edward and John Bowman were brothers. They are often seen as owning adjoining land and as witnesses to Hancock documents, etc]. 5). Chesterfield Co., Va Deeds 1749-1756, p. 156: "John Bowman of Dale Parish, Chesterfield Co., for good will and affection to my son Joseph Bowman of same, 140 acres on north side of Swift Creek, bounded by Maj. John Bolling and Samuel Hancock. 7 June 1754 Wit: Simon Hancock, Lodowick Farmer, Peter Farmer Recorded: 7 June 1754." 6). Chesterfield Co., Va Wills 1749-1774, WB 2 P 39: Will of John Bowman names children: John Bowman, Drury Bowman, Joseph Bowman, Prudence Bowman, Amey Farmer, Sary Hill, Obedience Clark, Preseller Bowman and Daniel Bowman. Dated 25 March 1756. Executors: sons John & Daniel Wit: Simon Hancock, Joseph Taylor, Jan Hancock [It is likely that John Bowman, son of the testator above, was the John Bowman who in 1760 witnessed the Will of our Samuel Hancock (WB 1 P 377, Chest Co., Va). Samuel's will was proved 6 Feb 1761, Chest. Co. Order Book 3 P 112, presented by Simon Hancock, executor, and proved by John Bowman and John Hancock, witnesses. Also, this John is likely the same one referred to in the land description in the deed to Robert Haskins, Chest. Co. DB 1 P. 175, dated 2 Aug 1754, with George Hancock and Joseph Ligon as witnesses]. Also, compare the above deeds which refer to "Swift Creek" with the following: On 8 August 1748, William Hancock of Henrico County sold to George Hancock of the same, 350 acres of land "on Beaver Ponds of Swift Creek" that had been purchased from Thomas Richardson in 1744.. This info backs up the info on George Hancock and shows that his wife Mary Jones also had roots in Henrico/Chesterfield Co., Va. I shared all this info with The Hancock Project many months ago but they chose not to make the correction at the website. Find following what I consider to be the correct alignment: 1 Robert Hancock 1650 - 1709 .... +Johan aka Joan Ligon 1653 - 1726 ......2 Robert Hancock, Jr 1679 - 1732 ......... +Margaret - 1751 .........3 Robert Hancock 1711 - .........3 Edward Hancock 1713 - .........3 Dinah Hancock 1717 - ............... +Mr Patterson .........3 William Hancock 1720 - .........3 George Hancock 1724 - 1782 ............... +Mary Jones ...............4 Edward Hancock 1752 - ................4 (Col) George Hancock 1754 - 1820 .....................+Margaret "Peggy" Strother 1763 - 1834 ....................5 Judith (Julia) Hancock 1791 - 1820 .......................... +(Gen) William Clark 1770 - 1838 .................... 5 George Hancock 1798 - 1875 ..........................+Elizabeth (Eliza) Croghan 1801 - 1833 .................... *2nd Wife of George Hancock: ..........................+Mary Holliday Davidson .............. 4 Augustin Hancock 1756 - .............. 4 Mary Hancock 1759 - ..................... +Samuel Kennerly .............. *2nd Husband of Mary Hancock: ..................... +Mr Rayford ......... *2nd Wife of George Hancock: ............... +Rachel .............. 4 Judith Hannah Hancock 1762 - .............. 4 Elizabeth Hancock1763 - ............3 Thomas Hancock 1727 - ............3 Joshua Hancock 1729 - I also show this at my Gedcom at World Connect: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=hanser5 My best, James R Hancock
