    3. Thanks John. I am convinced that my gggrandfather was from this line someplace.thought so a few years back but could only find one Zachariah and he was to old but have a feeling that on of those kids had a son named Zachariah.I believe my Zachariah and someof his family went to Baltimore to fight in War of 1812 and stayed for a while.Zachariah died but son or brother Jonathan born around 1783 left in 1830 for Ohio with his wife's family the Stutsons who were also from Mass.I know that these Hancocks were from Mass from census.I guess I'll start corresponding with Mass. Archive. As for coming up river to Mass from Ct. I have another line {BELDEN}who did the same thing until a couple of them decided to go to Ky. That's another mess.Again thank you for your help and good luck at keeping sanity.I lost mine a while back. 1. Re: [HANCOCK-L] New England Hancocks
    2. John Perry
    3. Dear Ms. Powell, I descent from the John Hancock [1688 –1775] and Anna Webb [1695/6 –1771] that you inquired about (via their eldest son, John Hancock [1717-1776] and Abigail Terry [1727 - ], their second son Moses Hancock [1758 –1828] and Wealthy Bishop [1761 – 1845], their second son Eliphalet Hancock [1782 – 1860] and Betsy Yale [1786 – 1864], their eldest son Albert Hancock [1805 – 1899] and Sophia Clark [1811 – 1851]. Their (Albert's and Sophia’s) daughter married my namesake (and Great Great Grandfather in 1854). Thus, Thomas Hancock and Anna Webb are my Great x 7 grandparents. I have not yet discovered any work that deals specifically and exclusively with this Hancock family. I know of four works that mention various member of the line: "New England Marriages Prior to 1700," "Families of Early Hartford Connecticut," by Lucius Barnes Barbour, Charles H. Pope’s, "The Pioneers of Massachusetts" and James Savage’s "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England." For purposes of economy and sanity, I try to limit my database (and my research) to only the spouses and children of siblings (and their spouses) of my immediate line [except, of course whenever something outside those limits happens to interest me], so my research cannot really be described as “extensive.” The John Hancock [1688 –1775] of your inquiry is the son of Thomas Hancock [ca. 1647 - 1734] and Rachel Leonard [1665 – after 1699]. That Thomas Hancock is alleged to be the son of Nathaniel Hancock [1596 –1652?] and Joanna Wright [1612 –1663?] (and, if this descent is indeed the case, this line would be related, collaterally, to the line that produced the signer of the Declaration of Independence). This relationship is, in my opinion, yet to be fully proven. Rachel Leonard (the mother of the John Hancock who is the subject of your inquiry) is from a so-called “aristocratic” colonial family – i. e., one that can trace its descent from the minor nobility of England. This line of Hancocks seems to have worked its way up the Connecticut River Valley, from Farmington and New Haven CT to Springfield and Wilbraham, MA. My branch of this line ended up in Vermont sometime after the Revolutionary War: Eliphalet Hancock [1782 – 1860] and Betsy Yale [1786 – 1864], my great X3 grandparents were married in Ferrisburg, Addison Co., Vermont on 5 January 1805. Eliphalet’s father, Moses Hancock [1758-1822], participated in the War of Independence as a private under Capt. Charles Colton in the Massachusetts Continental Line. He enlisted in 1777 and served on the Massachusetts Continental Line for three years. I hope the following descendant tree is useful. Sincerely, John Perry This is the descendant tree for John Hancock and Anna Webb from my database: 1 John Hancock 1688 - 1775 .. +Anna Webb 1695/96 - 1771 ........ 2 Mary Hancock 1715/16 - ............ +Nathaniel Hitchcock 1715 - ........ 2nd Husband of Mary Hancock: ............ +James Dorrance 1724 - ........ 2 John Hancock 1717 - 1776 ............ +Mary Kilbourne - 1754 ........ 2nd Wife of John Hancock: ............ +Abigail Terry 1727 - ................... 3 Mary Hancock 1755 - ................... 3 John Hancock 1756 - 1759 ................... 3 Moses Hancock 1758 - 1828 ....................... +Wealthy Bishop 1761 - 1845 ............................. 4 Moses Hancock 1781 - ............................. 4 Eliphalet Hancock 1782 - 1860 ................................. +Betsy Yale 1786 - 1864 ........................................ 5 Albert Hancock 1805 - 1899 ............................................ +Sophia M. Earlier it said I had the Worm Badtrans.B noncleanable C:\windows\system\kernel. Hopefully everything is clean now. BE ON ALERT!!!!!!!!! Alan Jeffrey

None of us is immune and I had no virus in several years. Guess my AV was working until they put on the new XP which has no virus protector in it. Need to put a virus protector on before loading XP to be safe. 1. [HANCOCK-L] virus
    2. Rena Wells
    3. I am so sorry, I did have the virus but according to McAfee I no longer have it. The one I got it from said re: Fish family and my maiden name is Fish. So I opened it. IT WAS A VIRUS. This one is smart and will fool you. But I did notice that it jumps up in your face to be opened, instead of you having to click to get the box to open, save, or cancel. The box comes up on it's own. I had to download the newest add on for Mcafee to get rid of it. Please be careful, there is a lot more people out there who have it and don't know it. Again I am so sorry. Makes me want to dope the internet all together. Rena Wells rwells@apex.net My GENEALOGY PAGE http://www.angelfire.com/ky/bluegill7/

    3. Sorry Bill I did not send you anything. I had a virus and it sent it. You probably have it now. I got rid of it in a day but it sends out before you know about it. You need to scan or if you wait you will start getting emails like this one. Again I am sorry. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Felknor" <billf2k@yahoo.com> To: <HANCOCK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 02, 2001 11:47 AM Subject: [HANCOCK-L] For Rena Wells Please resend you message to me as I could not open the attachments. 1. [HANCOCK-L] Cotton in the South
    2. Bill Felknor
    3. Hi All As many of our Hancock ancestors grew cotton or farmed in the lower south, I wanted to tell everyone about a good little book I came across. It is called "The Cotton Kingdom" by William E. Dodd written in 1919. Published by Yale University Press. It is only about a 146 pages and has a world of history about cotton farming, slaves and the farmer way of life. I don't know if it's out of print but I'm sure some libraries might still have it as it was part of the The Chronicles of America Series. Bill Felknor billf2k@yahoo.com
