That is the "type" of your ancestor. If that DNA matches another who is descended from another limb of the ancestor tree, it confirms that the DNA is correct and proves the relationship. We use a buccal swab that is obtained with the Test Kit that is sent out by the lab when you place your order. If you go to the website and click on the links to FamilyTreeDNA it will answer all questions and even show the test kit. http://small-stuff.com/HANCOCK/DNA/ Julia

    3. Hi, Julia, I know you refer to the Charts in your listing of DNA, but there is no link to this charts. Would these refer to the HANCOCK WorldWide Project Charts that you and others created a while back? The DNA testing results are getting more and more exciting as we go along. Thank you for taking on this commitment. I hope we get a lot of volunteers so we can find some long lost cousins, and make new family connections. Audrey

I don't know if we have any from New England being tested, as I don't look at the lines until it is time to post them, but I don't believe that we do. This DNA testing is so much fun. I have four matches in my FRENCH line all from NJ, but two different lines who didn't know that they connected. If you look closely, at the marker numbers on the Hancock Results chart the first 12 numbers are so close that I think it means that they were related very, very, long ago. Julia

    2. We have another result in and it is a surprise in that the participant is from William Hancock of Craven Co., NC, but he does NOT match the other two participants from Chart # 1. I shouldn't be surprised as I have never seen any proof that William of Craven Co., NC was the same William who was born in Lower Norfolk, VA, the son of Simon. We need more tests from this line to establish the Haplotype. Are there any male descendants of James of Pitt who are living that we could get into our DNA project? See the results on the webpage. 1. [HANCOCK-L] Hancock's - Kilmersdon, Somerset, England to Wales to PA
    2. Susan Young
    3. Is there anyone on the list researching HANCOCK or HANCOX in Kilmersdon, England? My earliest known ancestor is George HANCOX b. abt. 1801 in Kilmersdon. He married 05 Feb 1827 in Kilmersdon to Esther MOORE b. abt. 1801 in Kilmersdon. They had several children born in Kilmersdon, including my great-great grandfather, Solomon HANCOCK b. 1831. Shortly after January 1836 the family went to Bedwellty, Glamorgan, Wales where several other children were born. In the early 1850's many of the children came to Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania and one son, John, went from Wales to Australia. Although the church records in Kilmersdon spell the name as HANCOX, signatures of my ancestors in their own hand spell the name HANCOCK. I have extracted all of the HANCOX families I could find from the Kilmersdon church records in the early 1800's. I'm looking to connect with others who had Hancock's in this area. 3. I think I have my answer from Jerry Hancock's WorldConnect site: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=hanser5&id=I00108 Jerry's Martha "Patsy" (Bartlett) Hancock appears to be the dau/o (Capt.) Thomas Bartlett and Mary Foster, thus Thomas Barlett and my hubby's Isabella Susannah (Bartlett) Graves were siblings. Their children, Martha "Patsy" (Bartlett) Hancock and Nancy Ann (Graves) Hancock, respectively, were then first cousins. But...their HANCOCK husbands evidently are not of the same lineage. Interesting! He was living in Abilene, TX in 1898. Is there anyone in that area who could find a death date or obit for me? His older brother died in 1900 and his younger brother in 1910. Thanks Don
