    3. Hi Julia, I am sorry to hear about Dale, I know he will be missed by many of us HANCOCK'S as well as others I don't hear about. I have been busy with my Hancock Tree. A niece of mine who I had never met but was trying to find for around 40 years contacted me through Ancestry.com this year and I was able to travel to meet her, what a wonderful surprise. My Family has finally all come together and my circle is complete but never finished for sure, the Hancock Tree is still in progress. I became a Great Grandmother to a beautiful little girl, a Great Grandmother In law to two other Grand Children.. I wish all my Cousins out there a very Happy New Year and Happy researching. 3. I am still interested in the descendents of Major Hancock (born abt. 1745 in VA, died about 1840 in Missouri) and his wife Ann Thomas (born abt. 1746 in VA, died about 1783 in VA). I am descended from their daughter Susannah who married Charles Moreland Oct 22, 1790. I would be very pleased to exchange information. I am very sorry to hear about Dale Hancock's dying. He was an excellent genealogist and a very nice fellow. Eldon J. 3. I am really sorry to hear about Dale.  I seem to recall that he was in my chart--if I am thinking correctly.  Yes, we corresponded some through e-mail.  So sad to hear. Now, I am still trying to gather information and i have not made much headway.  However, I did locate the cemetery where my greatgreatgrandfather and ffgrandmother AND my greatgrandfather and ggrandmother are buried.  It was an exhilirating moment when I located it and now I am trying to make plans to begin cleaning it up some.  I have finally connected my gggrandfather with te person whom I believe to be his mother and, hence, the name of his father. The irony of all of this is that I have determined that I did not move far from my roots.  Both my mother's and father's families lived in the early 1800's  within a 20 mile radius of where I live today. 3. Julia: Sorry to hear about the loss of Dale. He was a good one. Annie and I have been "retired" from genealogy research for quite some time. Now well into our eighties and slowing down a bit. I still have my database and refer to it rather frequently. I do miss the days when we had so many cousins actively sharing information and helping each other. Thanks for your excellent leadership over the years. I extend greetings and best wishes to all the cousins for a healthy and productively 2013.  Arvil On Dec 29, 2012, at 12:35:38 PM, JULIAFWOOD@aol.com wrote: From: JULIAFWOOD@aol.com Subject: [HANCOCK] Hoping that all is well. 3. Interesting idea, Julia, and thanks. My Hancock connection and interest began when I discovered a Hancock family had farmed near my Wm P Stone ancestor in the area of St Joe, on the Buffalo R. in Searcy Co, AR around 1870 and thereafter. Two Hancock sons married Stone daughters. John m. Mary Etta and James m. Martha. I primarily traced the John and Mary Etta branch as it went west to Oregon, taking along GrGrandfather Wm P Stone. Other surnames crossing the Stone paths in that era were Smith and Cruse. An Interesting family. ron in CA On 12/29/2012 12:35 PM, JULIAFWOOD@aol.com wrote: > Dear Hancock family, > > I have just received a notice that our dear friend, Dale Hancock, of > Mississippi passed away on December 17th and know that many of you would want to > know. > > Odessa & Helene and I decided that since we haven't heard from many of our > Hancock friends here on the Hancock list in a long while, it is time that > we all checked in and said hello and maybe you will give us an update on > what is happening with you and yours. > > I am the same (just a lot older). 3. Would be interested in learning of the research history and ancestry of William Hancock and his wife, Mary Reynolds, who appear in Saline County, Illinois and are contemporaries of James Clayton Hancock who married Amy Reynolds and who also appear in Saline County, Illinois circa 1850. Two descendants of James Clayton Hancock and one descendant of his brother, Clark William Hancock participated in the HANCOCK DNA Project and are related to each other and other DNA Participants of Group 3. Both James & Clark are said to have been born in Hamilton Co., TN. Undocumented sources indicated James Clayton Hancock & Clark William Hancock are perhaps sons of Lewis Hancock & wife, Rebecca Vandergriff, but no proof. Ancestry.com family files show that William Hancock (wf, Mary Reynolds) was s/o Simon Hancock & Ann Turpin; gs/o Simon Jefferson Hancock & Martha Jane Flournoy; & g-gs/o Samuel Hancock & Johann Hancock; gg-gs of William Hancock & Elizabeth Cockcroft, but I do not know if their lineage is represented by DNA testing of a descendant, so this ancestry could be incorrect for William Hancock (wf, Mary Reynolds). Any thoughts would be appreciated. http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Hancock/default.aspx?section=ycolorized Audrey (Shields) Hancock

    3. Sally , Thanks ;-) As far as I can tell there are two 2 Francis Marion Hancock s in a Civil war Cemetery in Gatlin Tennessee one from Missouri and one from East Tennessee. They are supposed to be burid just a few graves away from each other. One fought for the North the other the South. When I went to Ancestry.Com the one from MO is to have been in TN. Francis Marion Hancock would have been my 2nd Great Grandfather. Gridley, CA is abt 65 miles from Sacramento. Good luck in figuring out which is yours. Maybe someone on the Hancock list will have some help for you. Julia In a message dated 6/25/2012 4:52:28 P.M. 3. Hi Thomas, I have a Francis Marion Hancock but he was born in Maryland so I'm not much help. Early on in my research someone told me he was a she and that kinda threw me a bit until I double checked the census's. He would be my 2nd great Uncle. Tom, where is Gridley California? I was born and raised in California and I don't have a clue where that is. I do know Highway99 though. Good luck with your search. 1. [HANCOCK] Zianah Hancock
    2. Hello! I am looking for assistance regarding my 3rd great-grandmother, Zianah Hancock. She was born abt 1806 in Virginia. She was married to William Porch (son of Frederick Porch & Martha James) on Jan. 9, 1830 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. I haven't been able to find out who her parents were. I have no information on her siblings either. By 1840, the family moved to Monroe County, Indiana, and by 1850, they were living in Bell Plain Township, Marshall County, Illinois. Her husband, William, died in 1857. Between 1870 & 1874, she & her youngest son, George Porch, moved to Sedgwick County, Kansas where she married Alexander Davis on Apr. 15, 1874. She died on Mar. 20, 1884 in Sedgwick County, Kansas. She only had children with William Porch, they are as follows: Elizabeth Ann Porch (1830-1868), Thomas D. Porch (1834-1876), Dudley Porch (1837-1853), William Henry Porch (1841-1896), Martha Jane “Mattie” Porch (1844-1920), Nathan W. Porch (1845-1864), George M. Porch (1847-1898). Census records indicate they may have had 2 other children that died in childhood while the family was living in Indiana. Her name is spelled in a wide variety of ways on census records. Her headstone has her name as “Ziannah,” but all court records in Marshall County, Illinois have her name listed as “Zianah.” Any info you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Kimberly

    2. Hi Leonard, Evan Hancock, nor any of his siblings had a middle name or initial. I don't know where Evan died, but he was still in Craven Co., NC in July 1790 when he witnessed a Will: _http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/craven/wills/bell01.txt_ (http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/craven/wills/bell01.txt) Evan's brothers (sons of James Hancock & Tamar Jones) did move out of Craven / Jones, NC. James and Roger moved to Orange County, NC after 1810 where they left Wills in 1816 & 1817, respectively. William moved to Wake Co., NC where he was living when the brother, John Hancock, applied for his Rev. War pension and mentioned him as having the family bible. John left his Will in Carteret Co., NC in 1838. Actually, I have never tried to follow Evan, but he may have died early since I didn't bump into him in all my Hancock research. I wish I could be of more help. It is impossible to clean up all the misinformation that circulates on the Internet and many don't seem to want the truth. For instance. A few days ago, I corrected an email where a lady said that she was descended from William Hancock who died in the Indian massacre in 1622 in Virginia. When I told her that William didn't die in the massacre and was, most likely, never in America, another lady popped up and said that she was descended from that William, too. So if more than one says it, that makes it true??? It is a mystery to me that people collect data from the Internet and don't care to hear the truth or to do "real" research. If you read the archives of the Hancock list, you will see all the years that Lisa Craven and others, including myself where correcting a lot of the misinformation on the Hancock lines. You have done all the South Carolina Hancocks such a great favor, Leonard, by doing the research, making sure that it is placed on the Hancock list and correcting errors as you find them. Making short, none of William and Tabithia's children moved into nor died in GA, Their son John was born and died in SC. Also, there seems to be the same problem regarding Evan Hancock, s/o of James & Tamar Jones Hancock of Craven Co., NC. First and foremost, this line is not connected to the Chesterfield Co., SC Hancocks. DNA matches abound and its obvious these two lines are not connected. Thus my question. Growing by leaps and bounds, is the info showing this Evan Hancock with the middle initial of H. I have never seen middle initials for their sons. Second, the same info shows Evan born abt 1750 in NC and dying in Chesterfield Co., SC, in 1815. After 25+ years of connecting these Chesterfield Co., SC, Hancocks, I've never come across any evidence to even show, Evan of James & Tamar, even passed thru the county. Can anyone please show me the evidence or proof as to these two statements since they are being used quite often. Any leads or clues will be greatly appreciated. 3. Linda, Why would you put such a project on a Ancestry.com that requires a (IMO expensive) subscription to access, when there are excellent websites with free access, such as RootsWeb WorldConnect or any of the several free web space servers, such as Tripod? On free access websites you have a much higher chance of contacting newer Hancock researchers (and more experienced researchers that will no longer pay for Ancestry.com). See my Leechburg, PA project on WorldConnect and Tripod http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=leechburg http://fhheld.tripod.com/LeechburgFamilies/Leechburg_Families.html BTW, Some of your Hancocks are on these pages. 2. Hi Linda, We stopped updating the Hancock Project many years ago. It was still online until Geocities went away. BTW, William Hancock, a stock holder in the Virginia Company of London was not killed in the massacre of 1622 and there is no proof that he was ever at Jamestowne or in America, unless you have found the proof. Have you documented your line with primary documents? Julia French Wood In a message dated 6/16/2012 3:11:21 A.M.
