Hello Malinda, I am not sure where my Hancocks lived, but family lore suggests New York and/or Mass. I have not yet found a Clement Hancock, just two Benjamins, an Asa, and a Eunice. It is clear that I have much more work to do. Do any of these sound familiar to you? Thanks for your interest, Chuck P.S. Thanks also for the Viking info you so kindly sent.
Hello Julia~~ Thank You for your response. I tried the site you sent, but it couldn't be found, according to my browser. You said it was my Benjamin...do you have any other suggestion for finding a connection? Thank You so much...this is the best lead I have had in two years' searching! Does he tie into any of the DNA lines you are following? Best Regards. Chuck
Hi, Does anyone out there have the children of John L Hancock and Tabitha Ballew? I have traced them to Mississippi but some of there children were born in Kentucky some in Tennessee, and some in Mississippi. I have a T H Hancock born in 1812 that I beleive is one of his older sons but I have not proven it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mary
Is this your website, Chuck? Come on, Y'all~~~ I have been following all your work through this List, and I have posted an inquiry or two without any luck. It appears that you are rapidly making good connections with the DNA tests. My problem is that I believe my Hancocks were New Englanders, and it seems as though most are from the South. I have traced back to a Benjamin Hancock ( b. ca. 1728) who had a son, Asa Hancock (1753 — 1817 ), who had a son, Benjamin (1782 — 1858). This Benjamin's daughter, Eunice Hancock ( 1820 — 1888 ), married Justus Vickery. Surely with all the Hancocks out there, someone ties to this line. Help! Hello, Everyone, Well, I tried to get into Chart 3 and can't, but was able to get into Chart #10 concerning John D. Hancock b 1733. I have tentatively identified my (Capt.) John Hancock's father as Benjamin Hancock b 1735 perhaps York Co., VA. (I think Lisa gave me some info that Benjamin's father was a John Hancock of York Co., VA, perhaps found on a CD.; however, not proven.) Could John D. have been a brother of Benjamin b 1735? Benj. named a son, John, and John D. named a son, Benjamin which I suppose proves nothing with so many Johns & Benjamins, but sometimes it helps. I think it may help in connecting our lines to look at county transformations as we try to figure out family relatives who possibly stayed in the same general area: Charles River York Co. (1642) was changed from Charles River. New Kent Co. (1654) and Gloucester (1651) were formed from York Co.. Hanover Co. (1720) (home of Benj. b 1735) and King & Queen Co. were formed from New Kent Co. Spotsylvania Co. (1720) & Caroline Co. (1727) from part of King & Queen Co. Orange Co. (1734) from Spotsylvania Co. Louisa Co. (1742) from Hanover Co. Joseph, William, Austin, and Capt. John's believed father Benjamin was in Hanover Co. (where son Joseph stayed) & owned & paid taxes on land in Louisa Co. where sons, Austin and Capt. John were. Austin remained in Louisa Co. while Capt. John apparently followed his wife's GRAVES family into Kentucky and finally Ohio. Believed brother, William, was in Orange Co. So...even with this same family we find sons of Benjamin spread out into these adjacent counties: Hanover, Louisa, & Orange. Capt. John's wife's GRAVES family were in Spotsylvania Co., VA, so why not find connecting HANCOCKs in Spotsylvania Co. In John D.'s case: Albemarle Co. came from Goochland Co. and Louisa. Fluvanna Co., from Albemarle Co. So...where do we go from here to find our family connecting ancestor? Julia, I couldn't get through to Chart #3 this morning by going to the HANCOCK WORLDWIDE PROJECT site. Can you enlighten me? Audrey
Julia, thank you for all the work on DNA!!!!!!! The Hancock DNA is so well set up and useful info. It is easy to read. Other families that I look at just have the numbers and it doesn't mean anything. Since I am a woman, it wouldn't do any good for me to contribute. But I have sent the info to several Dawson Hancock descendants. They are having a reunion in TN this weekend and I hope one will contribute. Karen Dean '

That is my family as well! I descend from John Pipkin Hancock. Lisa Cravens (one of the best researchers for Hancocks) gave information: NC Revolutionary Military Papers NC State Archives, Raleigh, NC Folder #282 1811 Power of attorney - Thomas Hancock of "Heartford Co., NC only heir to uncle, David Hancock, who died in Rev. War, to Daniel Cherry of Wilson County, TN 1812 - 640 acres to heirs of Nehemiah Handcock of Hertford Co. 1813 - Martin Co., NC Deposition of John Clark, re: Thomas Hancock, heir of Nehemiah Hancock, deceased. Lisa said "This not only proves Thomas to be the son of Nehemiah, it proves that Nehemiah had a brother David Hancock." She also indicated that the 1790 Hertford Co. NC census listed Nehemiah and is the only Hancock listed so apparently Thomas was already gone. An elderly family member said that his mother said that Thomas' name was John Thomas Hancock. I have no proof of that but it is a family story. It is my understanding that Thomas' wife was Mary Saunders. He was Randolph Co. NC sheriff in 1826-27 and somewhere I heard that he was a House Representative in 1828 -29 but I have no proof of that. My John Pipkin Hancock left Lebanon, MO after his wife Minerva died. He moved to Pocahontas, Randolph Co. AR where he died in 1885. Lisa, can you help us with any of this?
