Happy New Year, and I am sorry for the loss of Dale Hancock. I am still interested in the family of Joel Hancock, born c. 1792 in Georgia. I have received some photographs that belonged to my aunt, Gladys Hancock Evers, and am trying to match them up with names. (Unfortunately, my aunt had labeled the frames instead of the portraits, and she took the portraits out of the frames to have copies made for someone, then never put them back into the frames.) If anyone has copies of these portraits (offspring and siblings of John Wilson Hancock, son of Joel), please let me know and maybe we can figure this out together. It's good to see this list active again. I'm sorry to hear of the losses of loved ones in our various families. Lisa, I will keep your daughter in my thoughts & prayers. I am still searching to connect Clement Hancock of Laurens County, SC back to either North Carolina or Virginia. Clement's widow and children left SC in the early 1800s & moved to Jackson County, TN. Some descendants moved on to Arkansas & Texas. I am also still working to tie a descendant who wound up in Indiana to Clement's family. I was thrilled a couple of years ago to be able to visit the sight where Clement Hancock and his fellow soldiers are buried in Laurens County, SC. I very much appreciate the DAR erecting a marker that made it possible for me to locate where he is buried. Christy Daniel Nashville, TN
Happy New Year!!! Its good to see activity among the cousin's again Alvis in Alabama
Hi Lisa,, It has been some time since I have done any Hancock research but I do not remember having looked closely at Francis. Thanks I will revisit because all clues are appreciated. Yes, the only taboo subject was the Civil War if I remember correctly. : ) Until we all finally agreed to disagree. Twins, lightning, and indian heritage were also among our many topics. I miss all of those discussions, too. We need to make an effort to stay in touch more. Hopefully, 2013 will be a good year that allows us to do that. Happy New Year to all! Odessa, Have you ever looked at Francis Hancock as a possible father for your Isom? He was in the Augusta, GA area as early as 1765. He served in the Rev. War. Just a thought that he might be connected, as he seems to have kept a very low profile in GA. Hi to all of our cousins!! It will be tough for all of us without Dale but I'm sure that he is in a much better place. He would be very proud that so many of his Hancock cousins have remembered and miss him. We all loved Dale. You are right Julia about "missing the ole days".......we shared everything and it was fun for all. Thanks Helene I only hope that my Isom M. Hancock b. c1918 in GA is connected to someone that you have found…. any clues appreciated. I’m still looking for the GA Hancock who could possibly be his father. I am excited to have my cousin Paul Hancock's DNA and with the help of Paul's wife Jane and cousin Raymond Kelly maybe we can now find those elusive Hancock ancestors. Happy New Year and let us begin…….again !! Odessa On Tue, Jan 1, 2013 at 7:28 AM, JULIAFWOOD@aol.com wrote: > It is go good to hear from so many of our Hancock (researcher) friends > on this list. It is go good to hear from so many of our Hancock (researcher) friends on this list. I think that Dale would be very proud that he started this conversation. Who knows, just posting your queries again might lead to new discoveries in your Hancock lines. I often think about the "good ole days" when we researched together and on slow days and nights would converse on everything and anything. I suppose all that is, still, in the Archives of this list. Remember when we talked about mosquitoes and gnats? And when I explained all about our Mardi Gras celebration here in New Orleans? I hope your New Year is very special and I hope we do, all, keep in touch. I haven't found my William Hancock of Craven Co., NC's origins, but have some clues which I will send to the list later. Hello. I’m sorry tohear of the passing of Dale Hancock. I’ma recent member of the Hancock Digest. Iam still actively researching my 3rd great-grandmother, Zianah(Hancock) Porch Davis (abt 1806 Virginia – 20 Mar 1884 Sedgwick County,Kansas). She was first married toWilliam Porch on 9 Jan 1830 in Lincoln County, Kentucky. They settled briefly in Crab Orchard, Kentuckybefore moving to Indiana and then to Illinois. After William died, she moved to Kansas and married AlexanderDavis. I recently had a DNA test donethrough Ancestry.com and I have links to the Porch family of Stafford County,Virginia with connections to the Jett, Berry, Curtis, Payne, Limbrick, andBurton families. Without moreinformation on Zianah’s family, I haven’t been able to establish moreconnections to her. I hope that everyone has a great new year. – Kimberly Porch, 2539 Weymouth Dr., High Ridge, MO 63049 -----Original Message----- From: hancock-request <hancock-request@rootsweb.com> To: hancock <hancock@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sat, Dec 29, 2012 5:29 pm Subject: HANCOCK Digest, Vol 7, Issue 11 Today's Topics: 1. John Hancock of Montgomery Co, NC, I have found no new information in a while. John had 2-3 wives, and many children, some of whom, move west and some who stayed in NC. He was born in 1760 in VA, served in the Rev War, was ordained by Bishop Asbury after the Rev. My Hancock connection and interest began when I discovered a Hancock family had farmed near my Wm P Stone ancestor in the area of St Joe, on the Buffalo R. in Searcy Co, AR around 1870 and thereafter. Two Hancock sons married Stone daughters. John m. Mary Etta and James m. Martha. I primarily traced the John and Mary Etta branch as it went west to Oregon, taking along GrGrandfather Wm P Stone. Other surnames crossing the Stone paths in that era were Smith and Cruse. An Interesting family. ron in CA On 12/29/2012 12:35 PM, JULIAFWOOD@aol.com wrote: > Dear Hancock family, > > I have just received a notice that our dear friend, Dale Hancock, of > Mississippi passed away on December 17th and know that many of you would want to > know. > > Odessa & Helene and I decided that since we haven't heard from many of our > Hancock friends here on the Hancock list in a long while, it is time that > we all checked in and said hello and maybe you will give us an update on > what is happening with you and yours. > > I am the same (just a lot older). I'm still working on the Randolph and Montgomery Co, NC Hancocks as time allows. Still very interested in finding all I can on these folks. Like Julia, I'm still the same, except a bit older. I have one daughter that will be leaving for Parris Island, SC soon, as she begins her journey of becoming a US Marine. While I'm very proud of her, I ask all of you to say a prayer for her safety. My other daughter is working long hours, as do I. Lea, any info you have on John Hancock in Montgomery Co would be welcomed by me, as John is the brother of my ancestor, Samuel. I am still grateful to Lisa for helping me finding Nehemiah who was living in Hertford county in 1790! His grandson Thomas was sheriff in Ashboro NC in 1826 and went on to serve in house of representatives in 1828. Anyone connected to this family? Maybe this will be a "break the brick wall" year! Happy New Year everyone! ------------------------------ To contact the HANCOCK list administrator, send an email to HANCOCK-admin@rootsweb.com. I'm so sorry to hear that your husband passed away. Hope you are doing well. I have done much on the Hancock line for a while, since the last thing I found on Hector Hancock was a petition signed in SC in 1717. I need to get back into it.
