Dear Cynthia, My Dad [1883, 1952] said Hamricks were German too, but he had nothing more to add except he thought 3 brothers came over about 1740.... Other poeple recently arrived from Germany say the name is definitely NOT GERMAN. The reason people cannot find the George Hammerichs from Germany is that they have pretty much died out. Can't prove anything if they are gone. However, Patrick was here many years before George and had established a large family before that time. I, myself, do not know who is right. One book published by the Bridges family [1750? can't remember] said Patrick Hamrick had 12 fine sons. No one mentions that source any more. I was shocked to find out others thought we were Irish??? English maybe, as there are some rearchers in England who have found some Hamrick and related names handed down from antiquity. My greatgrandfather wrote in Old English style, but perhaps his teacher was English. It is a great big puzzle which may never be solved. I am losing interest in the problem... As far as the LDS it simply publishes what people send in and does not claim to be accurate. Except for the copies of Census records, land transctions, Wills, Marriage records and etc. that have been taken from origional documents. Those are as good a gold. So just check your sources carefully so you know what the true facts are. As far as my line goes, we are stuck at 1785 in VA and can't go back any further. Have a good day and don't sweat the small stuff.!! Hugs, Darlene Hamrick Gleason
