    1. [HAMRICK-L] Fw: Hamrick Poem
    2. Jill O'Neall Ching
    3. My great Aunt Cosy was born in Nov 1850 in Amador and her daughter wrote : this poem: : Written by Eva Ray Weaver, daughter of Cosumnes California Hamrick McMurry : on the event of her 50th Wedding Anniversary to Francis McMurry (whose descendants live in Yreka and other No Cal place) ~this is odd, since she : was 14 when she married and 62 when she died, her husband dying 9 years : before her, makes me think that Eva wrote this poem posthumously! I am : sharing it because Eva tells her families history in the poem, I hope you : like it! : Jill Ching : : Cosy and Frank : : In that little Jackson Valley : Far from turmoil and strife, : Young Frank said to Cosy, : "Will you be my wife?" : : Sweet Cosy smiled shyly, : And said "That I will, : And we'll build s a house : On the top of yon hill." : : So the house it was built, : It's roof dry and snug, : And Frank and his Cosy : Lived like two bugs in a rug. : : He plowed the fields, : Sowed and reaped the hay. : She worked just as hard : In her own busy way. : : But 'twas not all work : Though their pleasure were few; : Their motto "Do unto others : As you'd have them do to you." : : The neighbors stood by : Offered help day or night; : But Cosy and Frank, shucks, : They were doing all right. : : Soon though, this two-some : Commenced to expand. : First more rooms were added, : Then more acres of land. : : : Their first-born was Martha : Vivacious and svelte, : One look at a beau, : She had his scalp on her belt. : : The next one was Laura : Quite proper and prim, : But no figure so perfect! : No ankle so slim! : : The third one was Ella, : So charming and gay, : 'Twas she took the dogs along : To keep the boys away. : : Then, Oh rapture! Oh bliss! : The jackpot was hit, : Behold, a man-child! : King Arthur was it. : : Then back on routine, : A shy winsome lass : Was Calla-for good deeds : She was head of the class. : : The sixth one, Lotta, : Arrived with fishpole and gun. : Wherever she went, : There was sure to be fun. : : Now again good fortune, : Knocked loud on the door : And another boy named Ralph : Took over the floor. : : The eighth, another girl, : She was called Eva Ray, : This was surplus, of course, : Just no luck on that day. : : The ninth and last one, : What name could there be? : With much thought and discussion, : She was tagged Florence Lee : : So there you have them, : From Mattie to Flo, : the result of what Frank said : To Cosy, so long long ago. : : Though fame passed them by, : Wealth took a detour, : The marks that they'll leave, : Will be good ones, I'm sure. : : And, though no name stands out : In profession, factory or school, : They have paid for their passage : With their Dad's Golden Rule. : : And best of all, as they've : Passed along through the years, : They've taken much time out : For laughter, very little for tears. : : So the years have gone by, : How swiftly time flies! : Years that have but strengthened : The old family ties. : : So, if you are gay, : Like to have lots of fun, : Try a McMurry Golden Wedding, : No matter which one. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : : ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ : Aloha from Jill [email protected] : http://www.maui.net/~mauifun/genweb.htm : Lists: O'Neall, Hamrick : Rules: http://www.maui.net/~mauifun/email.htm : Surname Search: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/6357/index.htm : Maui Genealogical Society: http://www.maui.net/~mauifun/mgs.htm : Maui GenWeb: http://www.maui.net/~mauifun/maui.htm : Ireland: http://www.maui.net/~mauifun/eire.htm : Pleased to share! : ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
