Descendants of Upson Co, GA Hamricks, On July 9, 1739, an American Revolutionary Soldier, Benjamin Hamrick, was born in Prince William Co., VA. On the 259th anniversary of his birth, Hamrick's name has been inscribed on the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) monument on the Upson County Court House Lawn. According to information compiled by Joyce Moody, Benjamin Hamrick was a resident of Prince William County when he first volunteered in the Revolution. In 1832, at the age of 93, Benjamin Hamrick applied for his Veteran's Pension in the Upson County Courthouse. But he did not know of any way to prove his service. Long after his death at the age of 100, personal papers were found in Captain William Lenoir's desk at the University of North Carolina Library where the officer had listed his men and the services they had rendered during the war. These volunteers received no pay and no uniforms. They rode their own horses brought their own rifles. The documents revealed that Hamrick continued to volunteer throughout the war, serving under Capt. John Cleveland's Company of Light Horse Volunteers and Col. Benjamin Cleveland and Capt. William Lenoir and General Rutherford.. Hamrick fought at King's Mountain and at Ramsuer's Mill. He went with Capt. Lenoir's company to the Creswell for lead to be carried to Salisbury. He supplied sundries to the Militia. When Benjamin Hamrick died in 1839, he was buried in the Bethelehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery on Triune Mill Road where his son, Rev. John Hamrick had been pastor.
