Dear kith n' kin: I thought you might want to see the viewpoint of Marie Hamric Stoneman, a genealogist for nearly half a century, on the Givens connections. She is a resident of Eldon, MO, and recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She writes, "Getting back to the Givens in case you have not had time to read 'The Givens and their Kin." A number of genealogists way back when thought we were descended from Samuel and Sarah Cathey Givens. DAR thought so and accepted a lot of applications. "In fact, I joined with Capt John Givens as my patriot. "There were two John Givens in the area about the same time. The Capt. John Givens married Jane Robertson and ours married Stilington or Crawford. A Mrs. Richelein finally found documentation clearing up this error. "We know William who married Nancy Bratton is our ancestory. It is thought that he may be descended from Robert Givens who lived in County Antrim, Ireland but not proven. So that is where your new genealogists with your internet may be able tro find our ancestor. "No one has been able to find the grave of Elizabeth Givens who married Gen. Andrew Lewis. So it is difficult to document with no records for sure. "The George Lewis connected with the Dodrill family came over from Pennsylvania and is not related to the Andrew Lewis family. I find a mention a long time ago that there might be a relationship but no one knows for sure." dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376
