HAMBRICK 27 SC, Mary 26 SC, Mary L. 8 AL, Sarah E. 5 AL, Nancy E. 3 AL, Josaphine 1 MS, and Cela HEMBY 38, SC. Cela must have been a sister or in-law of Mary. Winston Bradley Birmingham, AL
Just copied and pasted this off another list. Thought it might be helpful! Lovetra SEARCH Irish Records Index (1500-1920) Description of After the fire at the Dublin Record Office in 1922, the government appealed for Irish residents to donate any copies of records they possessed. This appeal yielded a large and widely varied collection of information that the Family History Library in Salt Lake City microfilmed in the 1960's. This database is an index to these records now in possession of the Library. Each entry reveals the person's name, date of record, and residence in Ireland. More importantly, the microfilm, box, and item numbers are provided to aid the researcher in obtaining a copy of the original record. These records include histories, pedigrees, parish registers, probates, and orphan's court records. For those seeking Irish ancestors, this index can be a tremendous aid. Extended Description: The records in this database can be found at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Tessie et al, Re: Burwell H. Hambrick, Morton's Dist., DeKalb Co GA. One reason why I enjoy this list and genealogical research.... it's bizarre how our lives come full circle. I grew up in DeKalb Co., GA; my parents still reside there. (I now live in NYC and in Indiana.) I am descended from NC Hamricks (my SC mother married my father, an Atlanta native), and we never knew that there were relatives this close! Ted

Looks like the information I received may have been referring to a Joseph Benjamin Hamrick who was the son of a Thomas and Margaret Hamrick. Unfortunately for me, when my old computer had its nervous breakdown, it took with it some of my original research. That's what I'm in the process of doing....going back and trying to re-site my resources!!! I might be laughing enough to make a pun now....but believe me, right after it happened I could have kicked myself for not making more than one back up. The back up I did have apparently had a corrupted file in it that made it useless. People down the street could hear my teeth grinding! I received this from another of my lists and thought it's worth passing on. I find that the NC Hamricks "occasionally" followed this naming pattern, more for males than females. Ted ------------------- The following came off of a Fife County, Scotland List-serve and I thought it might be helpful to other lists. We are always trying to figure out how to move back a generation and this might help provide clues. Use this at your own "risk". ken parker I have this information in my records taking the naming pattern up to 4th & 5th sons and daughters (I usually see this pattern referenced only up to the 3rd son & daughter). I got this info from a book I read a couple of years ago on Scottish Genealogy (sorry--I'm not 100% sure of the title, but I seem to remember it being something by Angus Baxter, maybe In Search of Your British & Irish Roots : A Complete Guide to Tracing Your English, Welsh, Scottish, & Irish Ancestors?). I've found that at least 2 families in my lineage followed this entire pattern exactly, and a couple of others seem to be that way too though I haven't been able to verify their info yet. 1st son = father's father 2nd son = mother's father 3rd son = father 4th son = father's oldest brother 5th son = father's 2nd oldest brother or mother's oldest brother 1st dau = mother's mother 2nd dau = father's mother 3rd dau = mother 4th dau = mother's oldest sister 5th dau = mother's 2nd oldest sister or father's oldest sister

Hi. There is a Thomas Jefferson Hamrick/Hambrick that was married to a Sarah Scurlock. Is it possible, do you think, that Scurlock is actually supposed to be Spurlock? Has anyone out there done any research to this effect? Also, were the parents of Thomas Jefferson Hamrick/Hambrick every identified? I have seen his name in conjunction with a Benjamin Hamrick of the Isle of Wight, VA. Thank you Kathy in FL mamkmm2@prodigy.net

Hello. I've been off list for some time and just now am in a position to re-join. I have some new information on my Burwell Hampton Hambrick. Formerly, we only knew the spouse for Burwell Hampton Hambrick as Elizabeth. Her maiden name and ancestry has now been found. Burwell Hampton Hambrick married Elizabeth Barber. She was the daughter of George Barber, Jr. and Elizabeth Reynolds (married 11 May 1806 in Clark Co., GA). George Barber, Jr. was born 1786 in Wilkes Co., GA. Recently some census info was relayed to me showing Burwell in the household of a Joseph Hamrick and Nancy Townsend in GA. Unfortunately, my old computer had a nervous breakdown and I lost a good many of my saved emails! Boo hoo!!! Hopefully that kind soul is still on the list and can retransmit that info to me. I would greatly appreciate it!! Also, is there a Hambrick/Hamrick website? Thanks much Kathy in FL mamkmm2@prodigy.net
I do not know if you are aware that not all of the I G I files are "Member" submitted. It is very true that much of the information there is, but, a lot of it comes from what is know as the extraction program. This extraction program is volunteer members of the church in their individual localities, and/or films of actual records microfilmed in whatever record repository, such as a County Court, Where ever, What ever State, USA or other Countries around the world, carefully and painstakingly read, rechecked and submitted to the I G I. More of this type record is filtering into the I G I than the earlier Member records. It is slow painstaking work just as any research is. It is also difficult at times to know the difference between the two. Lovetra HAMRICK,DANIEL wrote: > Dear Tressie: > You and Diogenes! Enough ~ enough, already! It seems that the "Jones" book rears it's ugly head about once a month in this genealogy group. Well, let's just put it to bed once and for all!!!!!!! Mr. Jones was MY great, great grandfather and I do not believe that his book was ever meant to be a genealogical record at any time. It has been established quite some time ago that some of the facts listed in that notorious book are not correct. I think one member's response best summed it up ... use it as a starting point only. When it comes to the accuracy of our ancestor's records, they all have a lot of room for improvement based upon our today's knowledge of record keeping! Mr. Jones loved to talk, he loved people and was well known for his "timely" visits at neighbors' homes (he also loved to eat ~ even though, he was a tiny little fellow). I have several other books that were "published" by him that I simply enjoy but not as a reference manual for any purposes. He was not a scholar, had little education that I'm aware of; but as he travelled, people just simply enjoyed hearing about their "families" in other areas. So, he accommodated them and probably embellished the stories as well. Instead of continuing to beat "this dead horse" ... let's move on. I'm as eager to find the truth about our ancesters as all of you are. I am the only member in my family who is interested in our past ... so, brick walls are not uncommon for me! I guess I'm what has been referred to in this group as a "lurker"! I do enjoy reading the emails and the fact that I am not an active participant online does not make me an uninterested member. I joined this group to learn more about my ancestors. I'll be happy to talk with anyone and share any of the info I have; but to banter comments back and forth about my great-grandfather's book is a subject that I think has been "bantered" enough. Thank you, one and all, for allowing me this time to vent my feelings on this subject. Hey, let's get on with the "diggin" and push the dirt to the side! Betty Jones Prater

Tressie, I thought Hans Georg Hammerich's grave was a given. Seems like I had read it many times but apparently not. Looking at the New IGI shows children in Maryland, Ohio, and Indiana. One Daniel in VA 1797 posted by a member of the LDS Church. A Mary Homeric m Michael Branson in Pittyslvania, VA with a bunch of children 1791-1810 and a Richard Hammerick m Mary in Pittsylvania, VA 1770 with a daughter Mary again submitted by LDS members. More likely Patrick grandchildren. J R Your last comment about George being buried in Germantown, PA, brings another question. The following is from a 1983 letter from the Librarian, Germantown Historical Society: "A careful check of church records, tombstone inscriptions, compilations from local newspapers and special indexes to genealogical data has not turned up a death date or buriel site for George Hamerick."
Thanks again J.R. Perhaps someone will post the tombstone inscription?
Tressie, Several years ago I was "Turned on" by the Story of Hans Georg and tried to find evidence of his descendants. Of his male sons who came over with him on the Snow Lawther most were recorded by the LDS when their children were baptized in the German Churches in the Germantown, PA area. The Baptisms are posted in the IGI of the LDS. There were none ever baptized by he and his proposed second wife Nancy Cook. Charles "Chaws" Hamrick reported he had followed his children down three generations and no male child had ever moved to Virginia or beyond. You are aware that one daughter married a German named "Doll" in Maryland but as far as I have ever found, no other of the family left PA. Since Hans Georg was buried in Germantown, PA you might expect the records of the children of his second marriage would be locally available. I have not found any in PA, in VA, or in NC. Thanks, Jr. Your last comment about George being buried in Germantown, PA, brings another question. The following is from a 1983 letter from the Librarian, Germantown Historical Society: "A careful check of church records, tombstone inscriptions, compilations from local newspapers and special indexes to genealogical data has not turned up a death date or buriel site for George Hamerick."
