    3. Kathy, You have summarized the data correctly. I have one other piece of data that I did not give you. Nancy Townsend's father had Revolutionary War service and someone entered the DAR through their daughter Sarah b 1805. He served in VA. I do not remember his first name and if there was a wife's name given. I have the data here on a SAR disk somewhere. Looking at the Patriot Index I see a Henry 1739 VA 1789 GA wife ? but he served in GA. I will look for the CD-ROM and let you know. Burwell Hampton b 1809 is the only other possible child I have for the couple. I have no census data for them and no other children. The children of Thomas, James & John C, are well documented. William died 1812 Rankin, MS and Burwell died 1814 GA so that only leaves Joseph as a good possibility. I will continue to work with you to solve the problem. 3. Thanks Tressie for the confirmation of the info with sources. I had that in my notes, but have run up against such a lot of incorrect/unreliable census data that its become hard for me to trust it. As I understand it, the general consensus...based on war records and census records...is that Burwell Hamrick and Berrell Hampton Hambrick ARE NOT the same individuals. One is the son of Thomas Hamrick and Sarah Scurlock and the other has not been confirmed at all. However, generally speaking, it APPEARS that it is likely that Berrell Hampton Hambrick/Hamrick is the grandson of Thomas Hamrick, most likely by his son Joseph and his wife Nancy Townsend. Is there any census data out for Joseph and Nancy Hamrick? Is there a will for Joseph or Nancy? Also, why do you think that Berrell Hampton Hambrick is the son of Joseph and not one of Thomas Hamrick's other sons? Has anyone done any work on Nancy Townsend's background? Know who her parents were? I'd really like to try and find out where the Hampton came in for a name. I've run into lines in the passed where the maternal grandmother's name was passed down, or a sister's or aunt's married name. If we could find this info, it would bolster a circumstantial case as to his true parentage. 3. JR (and Gwen), OK, it looks like the two Burwell's are getting mixed up. However this works out, the name Burwell/Burrell Hampton gets handed down several generations. Since we know that the name Burwell is predominate in that branch of the Hamrick family, it is more than conceivable that we can attach him there. Do you happen to know who the parents of Nancy Townsend are? If I can find more family names that I can attribute to that side of the family then we might be able to make a stronger circumstantial case for "my" Burwell Hampton Hamrick/Hambrick being the son of Joseph as opposed to his brother, for instance, where the name Hampton comes from. I wonder how it is possible that only the one child, and a daughter at that, has been firmly established for Joseph and Nancy Townsend Hamrick? Are there any more hypothetical children of this union? Did Nancy died young and Joseph re-marry? If Joseph lived long enough to be the guardian of a younger brother (actually think it was two of them), then he would certainly have been old enough, and financially established enough, to have fathered more than one child. Does anyone else on the Hamrick or Hambrick lists have a thought on this? 3. JR and et al., The Burwell Hampton Hambrick/Hamrick line is mine. Thanks for all the help. I believe one of the reasons we had such a hard time identifying him was because he was basically raised by his older brother. The way I understand it, my Berrell/Burwell Hampton Hambrick was the youngest son of Thomas and Sarah Scurlock Hamrick. But because of his father's death before his majority, his brother Joseph petitioned the courts to become the guardian of Burwell's portion of the estate (and of Burwell himself I guess). We just recently found out for sure that Burwell was married to Elizabeth Barber from some of the old plantation records in Texas. The plantation was bought and renovated a few years ago and some of my relatives out in Texas have gone there and say that it is beautiful. One of these days I hope to get out that way too. Below find what I have on the descendants for Burrell/Burwell Hampton Hambrick/Hamrick. I actually started with his immediate family including parents. 3. Dan, Check AGAIN on the 1941 date you have for Daisy - that is when her husband Hanson died at Bergoo where they lived at the time. In Daisy's obit it states she was the last surviver of the immediate family so she died after my Dad whom passed away on Bobs birthday -Jan.5, 1977 Now Dan I will have to put you in same catagory as my favorite author ! 3. Brien, Over the weekend I had trouble loading the data on the worldconnect site. I had a partial upload and could not finish. I also saw where others were having difficulty with the homepages site in reading data. Just internet growing pains. I just looked now and it seems OK. Try these instructions and if they do NOT work for you, get back to me. Click on the worldconnect address below. On the next screen select 'Search the Gedcom' Then put 'Hamrick' in the Surname Box. (Use Hamrick even if your name is Hambrick or other variation) Put a name in the 'Given Name' box i.e. 'Eli' and 'select' search at the bottom of the screen. A list of all 'Hamrick, Eli' will come up with Birth 'date and place' & Death 'date & place'. Some are blank. The last column is 'Database'. If the initials in it are 'jrm', it is my data, if not some one other's data. Click on the 'Hamrick, Eli' that has data you can identify. (Some have no data and you just have to keep trying) The next screen has that individual and his data in black His parents, spouse, and children are in red. Click on a red name and it will take you to a new screen on that individual with similar data. If the 'Hamrick, Eli' is not who you want use your "Back" and go back a screen and try another 'Hamrick, Eli' Hint! If you know the name of the wife, go back to the first screens and put her name in the 'Surname' 'Given Name' boxes. Makes searching easier if you have a very common Hamrick first name. 'Wiley' 'Charley' in your case. Hint! If you wish to look at only data put up by others, put 'jrm' in the last box, 'Exclude data base' on the first set of screens. Hint! If you wish to look at "Hambrick"' names put up by others, put 'Hambrick, Eli' in the first boxes. There are about 70 Hambricks listed. I use Hamrick for Hambrick so you only need to look under Hamrick for both. If you have any difficulty or find errors, please let me know. Please send me any data or persons I do not have. The site is designed for anyone to use who has a Hamrick/Hambrick in the family and wishes to find the ancestors and descendants of that person.
