Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and fruitful holiday season!!! Kathy and family
George Hambrick married Antoinette A. Boynton and they had Marita Elizabeth; she married Lucius Screws. Burrell and Elizabeth son James Houston Hambrick was born in Texas in 1856. I have some of the children of each of Burrell's children and we are as of now compiling more information. Two of Burrell's (Jr.?) descendents were visited recently in Hunt CO. TX. One is 102 and the other lady about the same. Will give you an update as soon as I have those details. Also will put on gedcom file my data on Burrell and descendents. I have done a lot of foot research in Smith, Rusk, Panola, Van Zandt and Rains Counties to get the infor I have. I got to see the family cemetery on the Roseland Plantation. I have picture of the house etc and will try to scan and send you a copy as soon as time permits and I figure out how to use all my new equipment. Kathy, I have the same information you do with the exception of James b 1841. I have a James Houston Hambrick b 14 Sep 1855 Van Zandt and d 2 Jan 1934. If you click on the worlconnect below and then put Hamrick and Burwell in the name boxes you can click or Burwell Hampton Hamrick. Just below James Houston click on the 'descendancy' and a chart will come up showing everyone. You can click on anyone in the chart and it will take you to that person's data. I live less that 100 miles from Burwell's farm in Texas. I understand it is a 'bed and breakfast' now. I intend to get over and see it some day. Berrell Hampton Hambrick (aka Hamrick) married Elizabeth Barber abt 1829, probably in GA. She was born about 1805 in GA. Her parents were George W. Barber, Jr. (son of George W. Barber, Sr. and Margaret Watkins) and Elizabeth Reynolds (daughter of Spencer Reynolds and Sarah Coleman). The children of Berrell H. Hambrick and Elizabeth Barber, that I know of, follow: Nancy Townsend Hambrick born 1832 George Berrell Hambrick born 1833 (married Mary Elizabeth Boynton) Burwell Hambrick born 1837 Thomas Jefferson Hambrick born 1840 (married Selena Steel) James Hambrick born 1841 John Hambrick born 1842 Sarah Elizabeth Hambrick born 1845 Georgia Anna Hambrick born 1847 (married Henry Owens) I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any other information to add to this group, such as marriages, children, etc. Kathy in FL mamkmm2@prodigy.net
Kathy, I wondered about the Joseph born 1833 also. People do have "Menapausal babies" but that is usually in the early age 50's. It looks like the Hamrick-James cemetery was on the land of Thomas and Nancy that passed on down to Joseph 1833. It has their children 3 girls with Typhoid and Sarah 1805. It looks like there could have been a Joseph b 1807 or 1812 that reasonably had Joseph b 1833. Burwell Hampton had his children Nancy Townsend b 1832 and George Berrell b 1834 so could have had a brother Joseph who had Joseph b 1833. However in genealogy, facts are stranger than fiction. Tressie and JR, OK, I'm confused. As I'm reading this I see that apparently there was the daughter listed in the DAR info that married a Josiah James, three unmarried daughters that died of typhoid, and Joseph the MD, as confirmed children of Joseph and Nancy Townsend Hambrick/Hamrick. But, I'm having trouble with the fact that "my" Berrell Hampton Hambrick being born in 1809/1810 (according to later census records) and Joseph Hambrick, MD be born in 1833 both being sons of Joseph and Nancy Hambrick. We know for a fact (if I'm reading correctly that is) that Joseph MD was a son of Joseph and Nancy Townsend Hamrick based on later census and graveyard records (see Tressie's previous posts). I guess it is possible that Berrell is also his son, but I would think that he would have to be the oldest child in the family and something is still off kilter. According to what I've been reading: Joseph Hamrick/Hambrick was born 1778 and died in 1857 at age 79. Nancy Townsend Hambrick, his wife was born in 1773 and died in 1851 at the age of 78. Nancy would have had their son Joseph, Jr. the MD (born 1833) at the age of 60? Am I misreading something here? I'm obviously confused. I can see my Berrell Hampton Hambrick being born when she was 36, but something still isn't right here. Could the date given in the cemetery records be incorrect or misprinted? Also, the daughter Sarah (mentioned in the DAR records) who married Josiah James was born in 1805. Somehow I've missed a generation I think. I can see Joseph the MD being the grandson of Joseph and Nancy Townsend Hambrick, but not their son. Please help. I'm confused! DAR applications should be used with caution, especially the older ones! Why has only one child of Joseph and Nancy been confirmed? Probably because no one had done the research! Wish I had time.

Tressie, I guess the reason why their are no names for the children is because the census back then only listed heads of household. Does the census list how many children are in the household on any given year? An excerpt of part of her records. Hambrick - On the old Hambrick place at Gardner Road, on old Conyers Road are three stone slab boxes said to be the graves of three unmarried Hambrick daughters. Enmeshed as they are in tangles of honeysuckle vines, I managed to read its inscription: Nancy Hambrick..... They are said to have died of typhoid fever.....this is the home place also of their brother Dr. Joseph Hambrick (1833-1879) who later became the first physician in old Stockbridge. Hambrick-James: (Joseph Hambrick 1778-1857) and Nancy Hambrick (1773 departed this life in 1851, age 78 years. Also side by side are similar stone slab box graves of Josiah JAMES who was born 1790 and died 1850, age 60 and Sarah Hambrick 1805-1855. This family cemetery of limited graves is located beyond the old barn on the old James (?) on Gardner Road. At the turn of the century it became the property of Judson Bowen, and is now the home of his daughter Mrs. Ruth Bowen Hinton. Dr. Joseph Hambrick married Sarah Elizabeth Price. They are buried in the Burke Cemetery at Stockbridge, GA.

Hi, Your Mary Elizabeth Hambrick Screws first name was Marita, according to probate records of Smith Co. Her Mother, Antoinette Boynton Hambrick died after 1870 and before 1872. After George Hambrick died in 1863, she married George H. Greenwood in Panola Co., TX and they had two children. Goerge Hambrick and Antoinette only had the first four children. The last two children on the 1870 census were Emma and Lary. Lary is spelled this same way on the 1880 census under Lucious and Marita Elizabeth Screws in Van Zandt. Their Lary was 4 months old. So Marita Elizabeth named her child after a half brother named Lary and her grandmother Boynton 's maiden name was Lary. Back to the probate, Antoinette's brother was guardian of the children after her death and filed for their share of the Burwell H. Hambrick estate in Van Zandt CO. The plantation is owned by Carolyn and Tom West and they are opening a B&B. They have requested the family history on the Hambricks. Check out Van Co. History site..A Roy Reddick is working on this also. I have some other corrections ? or differences on our family history that I will send to you later. I am on a new computer and don't know shineola. As soon as I can get everything in gedcom I'll send you what I have for comparison. Come and see the plantation. It gives you a special feeling. Did you know, Lucious and Betty lived there after they married?, Talk to you later. Cousin, Genevieve One more thing, Victoria (Betty's sister) married Thomas J. "Bud" Smith. I have their geneology. That is Ike's ancestor. Geogeanna Hambrick married Henry Owens a grocer and 1880 census Smith co. has her mother Elizabeth and her brother James living with them in Tyler. >From: "MICHAEL MARTINEZ" <MAMKMM2@prodigy.net> >Reply-To: HAMRICK-L@rootsweb.com >To: HAMRICK-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [HAMRICK-L] Re: Burwell >Date: Fri, 19 Nov 1999 13:31:56 -0500 > >JR and et al., > >The Burwell Hampton Hambrick/Hamrick line is mine. I have census on Joseph and Nancy, their cemetery info. I believe the Townsend name is based on a DAR application. There is a War of 1812 service record for a Burwell Hamrick, serving in MS Territory. There is an affidavit in the War of 1812 Pension application of John Hamrick of Lauderdale Co MS which says: he (John) often said he lost at brother at the Battle of New Orleans. Perhaps this was Burwell. See if LDS had tax records for DeKalb Co GA.
