    2. Jones has generation #2 , children of George Hamrick & Nancy (Cook) as: 1. George who m Susannah Blanton 2. Benjamin m Fannie Burchett 3. Moses Richard m Mary Bridges "IF" this is Benjamin of Georgia, in his own testimony he said he was born 1739, and came from Pr. Wm. Co VA. Have never, ever seen a Moses Richard in the historical record (1730's), only the Moses and Richard sons of Price in a later generation. Generation #3: Samuel m Mary Hamrick: identified as a son of George & Susannah (Blanton). If this couple was the Samuel & Mary who sold Patrick Hamrick Sr's land, along with an Elizabeth (1770) tax records show that a Robert paid tax on that land not George; Robert died in 1757; Elizabeth was administrator.

    3. Kathy, Since everyone knows that the children James Hamrick and Susanna and their son George married Phoebe Wright, The only explanation is that Susanna must not have been of 'good mind' when she signed her will "Pricilla". Seems like the witnesses and executors would have caught the error if they could read. jrm

Does anyone have documentation showing George to be a son of Pricilla and James? I have George and Phoebe in my line, but my late grandfather's genealogy records have George (m. to Phoebe Wright) as the son of James Hamrick and Susanna Hamrick. I would be very interested in any documentation showing that the George listed in Pricilla's will is the same George who is married to Phoebe Wright. Thanks! Kathy

    3. Thanks for your contribution to my family history. I have in my database three Weeses. The database is mostly people with Webster and Randolph County origins. I have an Andy Weese listed as having married Mary Dodrill ‹ an act that I also have committed. This may be your James Andrew Weese. If you know, I'd like to have confirmation. In any event, this Mary was the daughter of George Martin Dodrill (b1833) and Isabel Lynch Hamrick (b1836). Mary was my second cousin twice removed. She was the daughter of William F. and Jeanette Gregory Hamrick. William in turn was the brother of my great-great grandfather, David. William and David, among others, were sons of Benjamin and Nancy McMillian Hamrick. The Hamrick family connection is from Page 77 of Mayme Hamrick's "The Hamrick and other families ‹ Indian Lore." The Dodrill side may have come from Charles McClure Dodrill's "Heritage of a Pioneer." Don't worry about this sentence if it is confusing. This is merely designed to bring Patsy Hamrick-Weikart, who admits Dodrill blood, out from under a bushel and let her irrepressible light shine again. She knows much more about the Dodrills than me. Most of what I know about them has turned out to be wrong. I have "Andy" and Cora with two children, Cora and Patrick. I have no other information on them. I would appreciate anything you have. If you need additional information on Hamricks or Dodrills please let me and/or Patsy know. I'll try to check on Addison Weese and Ruhanna Dodrill. dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376 ---------- From: dweese@plix.com (Weese, Donald) To: <dhamrick@neo.rr.com> Subject: Family tree Date: Tue, Dec 7, 1999, 12:27 PM Dan , I received your e-mail on some of your family members , I have a Addison Weese married to A Rahanna Dodrill and a James Andrew Weese married to Mary Elizabeth Dodrill . your family ? 2. "a" George Hamrick was named as a son in the will of Priscilla Hamrick, widow of James, 1808. George Hambrick was named co-executor of the 1805 will of Richard Right (Wright) and FEBY Hambrick was named as a child of Richard Right/Wright. Owen Lee was also a co-executor of the Richard Right will, and Owen Lee and Richard Wright was bondsmen for the marriage of George Hamrick and Febey Right, 23 Sept 1801.

    3. You can send it on -I am not the author and no name as the writer -it was with some papers that was given to me when my brother passed away. Both of us like to collect trivia, poems and newspaper clippings etc. And my brother wrote short stories and this poem was written on notebook paper among his other papers. So I don't know if this was a favorite or he was the author - just how it came about but its a great poem with special words so enjoy and send it out for others to appreciate during the season. Let's just be thankful we are all live in America and not worry too much about where our European roots are. I have a couple or three other lines that have been traced to various places in Europe, mostly England and Scotland, but I have faith in only one of them. Mrs. Eidson spent several months doing research on that family in England and many more in this country, so I'm confortable with that line. Another goes back to 587 AD. I might believe that line back to 1500 or so, but not much further. To reiterate, I'm glad I'm an American and a Virginian (hey, maybe not in that order). Dick Hamrick Staunton, VA rhamrick@cfw.com

    3. Kathy You asked about my line into the Hamricks, so here it is. I'll skip down to George (not Patrick---sorry, JR, et al) Hamrick b. 1-20-1781 Phoebe Wright, b. 1780 Candas Hamrick, b. 1800 Young Hughes, b. 1800, d. 1831 Cynthia E. Hughes, b. 5-26-1826 Drury D. McDaniel, b. 1-24-1824, d. 8-2-1913 Martin Luther McDaniel, b.9-23-1850, d. 3-14-1931 Nancy Tabitha McClung, b. 8-6-1856, d. 7-4-1922 Margaret Emma McDaniel, b. 3-20-1875, d. 7-19-1965 Henry Waltus Starnes, b. 7-28-1870, d. 2-9-1966 Ima Martha Starnes, b.8-28-1902, d. 2-28-1991 Marvin Wells Davenport, b. 5-1-1900, d. 11-18-1983 (These are my parents) As you can see, there is a Scotch Irish connection, too. My Starnes line originated in Germany as Staring. There is also a Starnes line that originated in Britain, and some ancestors from each line bear the same given names which brings about some confusion. It may be that there are two separate (but equal) Hamrick families. Maybe we'll know someday. Bill Davenport

    2. Patsy H Weikart
    3. MERRY CHRISTMAS I have a list of folks I know, all written in a book And every year when Christmas comes, I go and take a look, And that is when I realize that these names are a part Not of the book they're written in, but in my very heart. For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime And in that meeting they've become the Rhythm in each Rhyme! For while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim I really feel that I'm composed of each remembered name; And while you may not be aware of any " special link " Just meeting you has changed my life a lot more than you think. For once I've met somebody, the years cannot erase The memory of a pleasant word or of a friendly face. So never think my Christmas cards are just a mere routing of names upon a Christmas list, forgotten in between, For when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you It's because you are on the list of folks whom I'm indebted to! For I am but the total of the many folks I've met and you happen to be one of those I prefer not to forget And whether I have known you for many years or few In some way you have had a part in shaping things I do; And every year when Christmas comes, I realize anew The best gift life can offer is meeting folks like you! And may the spirit of Christmas that forever endures Leave its richest blessings in the hearts of you and yours!

    1. [HAMRICK-L] Lewis and Clark Expedition
    2. HAMRICK,DANIEL
    3. The web page mentioned by Jill Hagelin carries the following information about Capt. Robert Bratton and William Bratton. The site is: http://www.gendex.com/~guest/69751/BrattonHomePage/br09011.htm "ENTERS WILLIAM BRATTON "Born on July 29, 1778, William Bratton was the son of George and Jane Elliot Bratton; grandson of Captain Robert Bratton (born 1712 in Ireland) and Anne McFarland Dunlap. His middle name may have been Elliott [as some believe to be his mother's maiden name.] The "E" was adopted during his Indiana years to distinguish him from another William Bratton, probably his cousin--who also lived near Waynetown, Indiana, and with whom he has often been confused. (o add to the confusion, other sources say that William Bratton was the son of James and Rebecca Bratton and was born in Augusta Co., VA.) "Bratton served an apprenticeship at an early age with a blacksmith, and took advantage of school facilities available to him at that period. 7 "When the Lewis and Clark Expedition was organized to explore the Louisiana Territory, William E. Bratton was living in Augusta County, Virginia. [However, most sources say he was "one of the men from Kentucky."] Arrested by the opportunity to see the GREAT WEST, the young man enlisted as a private in the company recruited by Meriwether Lewis. He was 26 years old at the time. "Except for a period of illness, William Bratton took an active and important part in the three years adventures in the west. He acted in many capacities such as scout, messenger, canoe builder, hunter, military policeman, and general handyman. He became an excellent gunsmith and blacksmith on the expedition and was in charge of the detail that distilled salt when the "expedition ran short of that essential. 2 "Private Bratton was in the third squad of the expedition. Being of "Scotch-Irish" descent, Bratton was a tough, yet disciplined man. He was nearly six feet tall, some believe he had red hair, square of build, very straight and erect, rather reserved, economical, very intelligent, and of the strictest morals. He was often referred to as "Bret." dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376

    3. Dan, I remember Happy Jack very well and he lived up to his name as being a happy man and long beard. We have many cousins across the country - its so grand to think how we link up to each other by modern technology. "Happy Jack" was a preacher and hold revival meetings that my family attended - I loved the singing but laid down to sleep during the preaching. When service was over and Mom woke me for home I complained that Happy Jack was to loud and his shouting disturbed my sleep -I was only four or five at the time. I guess that I was a picky eater as a child for when Mom wanted me to eat a certain thing and I didn't like the taste then my Dad would tell me if I ate the certain food that it would make me grow and put lead in my pencil. Mom would tell Dad that he should not say that because it sounded dirty. (He didn't mean it as a nasty sentence but that it would make me strong.) One Sunday after church Mom invited "Happy Jack" to dinner and at the table Dad passed a dish to Happy Jack and he said that his plate was to full so I said "Happy Jack" you better eat some of that for Dad said that it puts lead in your pencil." Mom was angry and said "Paris you told her that", Dad laugh and admitted as much. But "Happy Jack" laughed till tears rolled down his cheeks and slap his hands against his leg and roar with laughter. He never forgot that time and when ever we would see each other he would always ask me if I was eating to make lead in my pencil. Those were the good old days of simple life...
