Received this request from Ruth Chambers. Can anyone shed some light on this for her. I do not recognize any of the the names. I have several Alma's but don't connect. Please answer to HAMRICK-L@rootsweb.com and to RChambe563. Thank You in Advance. Harley Subj: Hamrick Date: 12/13/99 5:28:40 AM Pacific Standard Time From: RChambe563 To: TICO0 I am looking for information on a Hamrick family in Mississippi. The only info I have is that there were two daughters. One (Alma) married a Harrison Saxon who was killed in a train wreck in 1919 or 1920. She then married a Charles High. They lived near Shabuta or Wayne County. The second daughter (Mamie) married a Smith and later married a McElwayne. Alma Hamrick Saxon was my grandmother and died when my mother was 10 years old in 1930. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Ruth

Nadine and Sherrie, James P Hamrick b est 1813 in Wilkes, GA and his wife Malinda Horsley are well known. I have five of their children but I do not have a James Martin Hamrick for them. There are several James Martin Hamricks who are sons of others. >From the chart of descent you showed it would appear Morris Hamrick would be deceased. I checked the Social Security index and did not find him. You might try the State of Alabama for a death record or the County Court House of Houston County, Alabama where Dothan is located. James P Hamrick was in the 1850 Census of Houston, GA and the 1870 census of Dale, Alabama. I would also look at the 1910 census of Houston County, Alabama for Dothan since John David was born there in 1909. It would give you some estimate on the age of Morris. Tressie may have more help. Hi Cindy, Do you have a copy of the grandmothers application or know her national number? If not - you can obtain a copy from record dept. in DC with cost of $5.oo -if he application is not to old -her national number above 0450000 the documentation should be alright and your daughter need to proof her relationship to great grandmother. But if her national number is below the number above then some additional documentation may be needed to update the proof for their records. There is a short form that can be attached to long form but I never recommend it for the best way is to file longer foerm and take those extra time required because in the future when children and grandchildren wants to join then the data is already filed and proven. please write me if you know her number and how recent of a member she was - then I will have better knowledge to direct you so I hope to hear from you. And if you have any questions - just ask. Now that we have discussed Andrew Lewis, does anyone have information on the origin of Rebecca Lewis Daughtery Dodrill, who married William "English Bill" Dodrill? I believe she originated in Bath County, VA. They were the ancestors of most, if not all, the West Virginia Dodrills. I have nothing past Rebecca and English Bill. Does it not seem strange that we keep being able to trace the women, with name changes and all, to some degree in these families but cannot definitely trace Patrick Hamrick, Col. Isaac Gregory or English Bill? dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376
Chris and List Members: Just thought I would pass this word along - the DAR has Jacob Conrad line closed which means nobody can join until the lineage gets straighten out correctly - I have filed twice and papers sent back and you lose the filing fee when its on a supplemental. I am going on his line a different way now through patriotic service as donating to the cause instead of his time served in service and this way is much easier. Write me if you need more info on joining DAR. If you are related to Jacob Conrad then maybe you can connect with my other proven ancestor lines in DAR. I have the following men connected to Conrad families: William Currence Sr., VA - Col. Benjamin Wilson, VA -Major William Haymond, Va. The DAR application is on a floppy and can be used for original application or supplementals - its so easy to use and fast with filling in the blanks and copy on acid free paper which can be purchased through DAR or paper supply stores. This process is faster then typing and makes a neat written form -I teach workshops at DAR meetings using the Disk Application Process. You can mail to DC for a record copy of a person going through a certain child of your ancestor that may give you a clue or a copy of a relative's application if they were a member of DAR. Will help with info on the family lines or about joining DAR. Sorry. That's one of those things that's in my head that I'm having trouble getting out. I had the same problem with my two sons' birthdays on Oct. 3 and Oct. 8. Patsy says she has told me for the second and hopefully last time that it's Rebecca Lewis Daugherty Dodrill, who was the wife of English Bill. It's getting hard to spread misinformation around here without someone calling attention to it. Do you not suppose Benjamin could have been a private before he was a corporal? I realize this is not a linotype machine but there was a typographical error in the previous message on Elizabeth Given and Gen. Andrew Lewis. It read, ³v. Elizabeth Given (2) m. Dear kith n' kin: I thought you might want to see the viewpoint of Marie Hamric Stoneman, a genealogist for nearly half a century, on the Givens connections. She is a resident of Eldon, MO, and recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She writes, "Getting back to the Givens in case you have not had time to read 'The Givens and their Kin." A number of genealogists way back when thought we were descended from Samuel and Sarah Cathey Givens. DAR thought so and accepted a lot of applications. "In fact, I joined with Capt John Givens as my patriot. "There were two John Givens in the area about the same time. The Capt. John Givens married Jane Robertson and ours married Stilington or Crawford. A Mrs. Richelein finally found documentation clearing up this error. "We know William who married Nancy Bratton is our ancestory. It is thought that he may be descended from Robert Givens who lived in County Antrim, Ireland but not proven. So that is where your new genealogists with your internet may be able tro find our ancestor. "No one has been able to find the grave of Elizabeth Givens who married Gen. Andrew Lewis. So it is difficult to document with no records for sure. "The George Lewis connected with the Dodrill family came over from Pennsylvania and is not related to the Andrew Lewis family. I find a mention a long time ago that there might be a relationship but no one knows for sure." dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376
I Dear Kith n' Kin: Now that it has required a 90-year-old lady to remind me that she has given a book or compilation called "The Givens and their Kin" to me for the Anna Dodrill Family Research Center in West Virginia, I went to my bookcases, found it and actually opened it. There is a bunch of type in there. The upshot of all of this is that many members of the West Virginia Gregory and Givens family, among others, are related to Gen. Andrew Lewis by marriage, notwithstanding the fact that they may have had their own descendants. (One of the more intriguing things to me about the Lewis connection is the ancestry of Margaret Lewis Daugherty, wife of William Earle ³English Bill² Dodrill, the patriarch of the Dodrill clan in West Virginia. Elizabeth Given¹s parents are ancestors of the Webster County Givens and Gregorys. Kidding aside, I thought I would quote Marie Hamric Stoneman's page relating to Elizabeth and Gen. Andrew Lewis. This starts on page 15 with Elizabeth's parents. "Samuel Given, ( )1740. from Ireland to Orange County, Virginia (now Highland) 1738; importation papers of 28 Feb 1739. names wife Sarah and Children, proving his and their rights for land; bought Beverly Manor -- 311 acres from William Beverly of County of Essex 28 Sept 1738. "Samuel Given and John Lewis, Gentlemen, were appointed by Parliament, sworn as Justices of the Peace for Orange County, Virginia, in the name court, 23 Aug. 1739; founder of Old Stone Church, Augusta County, Virginia; members of the family are buried there the graves and stones are long since gone. No one family contributed more to the success of Colonial and Revolutionary Wars than the Givens and their kindred. --namely-- ³Capt. John Given ³Pvt. Isaac Rose ³Capt. Robert Bratton ³Robert McFarland, patriot ³Jacob Persinger, corporal and pensioner ³Lt. Christopher Graham ³Pvt. David Frame ³Pvt. Benjamin Hamrick ³Pvt. William Given (and others) ³Samuel Given married Sarah Cathey in 1718 in County Antrim in Ireland. ³Samuel and Sarah (Cathey) Given had ten children. These as given in his will were as follows: John, James, William, Martha, Elizabeth, Margaret, Sarah, Samuel and Jane . . .² Skipping information on other children, the information on Elizabeth: ³v. Elizabeth Given (2) m. General Andrew Lewis in 1949 (at Staunton, VA); Andrew Lewis ³Hero of Point Pleasant, ² third son of John and Margaret (Lynn) Lewis. He was with four younger brothers in a company of which Samuel was Captain at Braddock¹s defeat; he served with the Six Nations at Fort Stannick in 1768, was engaged in all of the Indian Wars of the west down to the Revolution, was commanding general of the Virginia Troops at the Battle of Point Pleasant, 10 Oct 1774, in which he defeated the Western Confederated Indian tribes under Cornstalk, the celebrated Indian chief. Had Lewis and his men, the flower of the Scotch-Irish settlement been annihilated by the planned treachery of Lord Dunmore, then liberty would have been suppressed again as at the time of Bacon¹s Rebellion.² dhamrick@neo.rr.com Dan Hamrick 402 23rd Street NW Canton OH 44709 Phone and fax: 330-454-2376

Good evening Listers, The post I made on William Hamrick was all of the information I have on him "on the Kanawha Frontier in 1792." Sorry, I don't know if he was in the Army of Andrew Lewis. According to what I have, he was in Captain Hugh Caperton's Company. According to Tressie McNealy's gracious reply: "Greenbrier Co VA Tax Lists, those available, 1782 through 1850, do not show a William Hamrick." "Kanawha Co VA Tax Lists, those available, 1796-1850, do show a William Hamrick in 1810." Note: I speculate this was William, son of Benjamin, born in 1789. "A William Hamrick shows up in Nicholas Co VA 1818, probably the son of Benjamin and Nancy (McMillion), but he may not have been of taxable age in 1792." Note: This was my ancestor, William Hamrick, son of Joel Hamrick. "There is a DAR application stating a William Hamrick had Rev. service, but the applicant gives him the children of Benjamin and Nancy (McMillion)." Note: Could this have been William Hemming Hamrick, son of Patrick? During years of research, I have been unable to find any other records in WV on this Hamrick. Therefore, I posted it hoping for help. I speculate this was William Hamrick, born around 1770, son of John Hamrick, an ancestor of Richard Hamrick, Jr. Comments and corrections are welcome, as always, by this amateur, but dedicated, researcher.
