Hi J R, Okay, I'm stumped......old age, memory loss, etc. I know I sent you the descendancy on Joseph Viers Hambrick but don't remember saying anything about 'landscape'.....? Help! Jane
Jane, As far as I know the only options I have is in the background colos and print color. Comunicator has Java and should read the page in Java. Please explain what you mean about landscape and what the problem is with my page. I appreciate you helping me. Thanks, J R
hey, found this real fast download site www.filedudes.com, check it out!
Jane, It may not be elegant but what about setting the page print setting to Landscape. In my Netscape Navigator 4.04, I can click on the web frame and then select File / Print Frame. When the printer selection comes up, I select Orientation - Landscape. This seems to get the entire page width, although it does take more pages to print it. Hi Jane, Yes, MOA is an incredible site! - url given in a previous message For printing the docs, there are supposedly two ways to do it, but I am only doing way #2, so let me know if #1 works. #1 - reduce the doc size to 50% and so browsers will print the page #2 - save the page by right mouse clicking and saving to your hard drive (I am using my web editor file to save the ones I want) then you can print them out, some were too big so I saved them to my scanner file and reduced them and then printed them out! This is truly a gift of a site for all of us! Wow! I located a document on my Hamrick's that I had never seen before!!! This is the first breakthru in awhile for me and it is a great document. Hi all Hamrick Family of Amador County Reunioners and Interested Individuals: For our second family get-together of 1998, we have run into a snag, and I need your input~ Well apparently the plans to hold our Hamrick reunion in Lodi Lake (nothing available there to reserve, in the whole month of July!) are not going to well. We will keep the date intact, but change the place of this event. It has to be July 18 or I won't be able to attend. I am hoping one or more of you can think of a picturesque park where 50+ reunioners can gather on Saturday, July 18, at a park for a picnic. We need tables, and shade, and something for kids to do, I would rather get out of Sacramento tho, perhaps up to Hamrick country, towards Amador, or in Ione, Sutter Creek, Jackson or ???? I don't know where to suggest! I can only remember Lodi Lake and William Land Park in Sacramento, I have not lived in California for 17 years! If you have any ideas for a grassy park please let me know asap so I can notify all potential attendees. If you know who I have to call to reserve the park space please tell me, so I can call and reserve the space. It is only 4 months away.....to those planning to attend, please help out by planning on bringing any folding chairs, tables, screened rooms, a bbq, I would rather not rent these items. Let me know if you can help along these lines and let me know what you can bring. If you are willing to help, please let me know that also. Thanks so much, Jill Ching in Maui
Does anyone on this list have information on Nancy McMillian and her ancestors? Seeing Dan Hamrick's post on Cassie Hamrick's ancestors, including the story of "Jack" McMillian carrying William Hamrick on his back on his back to escape a threatened Indian raid about 1793, made me wonder if there was more information on this line. Below is all I have on the McMillian line. Descendants of John McMillian 1 John McMillian .+Martha Palmer ..2 Nancy McMillian b: November 4, 1762 in VA (Faquier) d: 1829-1833 in Strange Creek, WV (Braxton) ......+Benjamin Hamrick b: 1755 in VA (Prince William) m: 1779 in VA (Faquier) d: 1842 in WV (Webster) ....... 3 William Hamrick b: 1789 d: 1850 ....... 3 Joseph W. She had eight children but I have information only on daughter #4 (Sarah Coger Jeffreys) who was my great grandmother. Thanks, --Dick Ross
There was an inquiry a few days ago while my own computer was out of commission, as it has been so often this winter, about a Cassie Hamrick of West Virginia. I have information on her ancestors but nothing on her descendants. There follows a so-called ahnentafel report on Cassie Hamrick. This "ancestor table" basically is simple. To find a father double the child's number. To find a mother, double the child's number and add one. Of course, if you want to start on the other end, you can divide. I'm leaving the references -- and questions -- in this report in event they will be helpful to others. I would appreciate any information on the descendants and relatives of Cassie Hamrick, as her mother was the daughter of my great-grandfather Peter Hamrick. First Generation 1 Cassie Hamrick. "William Hamrick, son of Benjamin and Nancy McMillian Hamrick, was born in Greenbrier County, Virginia, now West Virginia, in 1789. He was four years of age at the time of an intended Indian Raid on the settlements of Greenbrier County, and was carried on that memorable journey of more than 100 miles through the forest of Fort Donnally by Jack McMillian. Pioneer When William Hamrick was 23 years of age, he built his home on the north side of Elk River in what is now Webster County, WV, five miles above Webster Springs, then called Fork Lick. That section of what is now West Virginia was a wilderness without highways through the forest and without bridges over any of the many streams. . . War of 1812 "In 1814 William Hamrick enlisted in the war against Great Britain and went with his brother, Benjamin, to Norfolk, Va, where he served in Capt. Wamsley's regiment until his discharge Dec. 15, 1814. Noted Hunter " William Hamrick was a celebrated hunter. He always kept a pack of well trained dogs for the chase. He knew the favorite haunts of the animals that roamed the woods in abundance. His hunting explorations were always successful. He frequently killed 100 deer and 50 bear in one season. To the amusement of his many friends he enjoyed relating the exciting anecdotes of the chase. First School House "In 1834, William and Benjamin Hamrick and James Dodrill built the first schoolhouse erected in Webster County and hired the teacher, Beoni Griffin, for a term of three months. The school building made of logs stood on the north side of Elk River, near the mouth of Wolf Pen Run. William Hamrick participated in the movement of 1841 to have a new county formed from Randolph, Nicholas and Pocahontas counties. As a result, Webster County was created by an act of the General Assembly of Virginia Jan. 10, 1860. Died in Nicholas County "While on business in Nicholas County, about the year 1850, William Hamrick died suddenly and the body was not returned to the home in Webster County for burial. He married Elizabeth Miller and moved to the Upper Elk section of what is now Webster county, and built his home about the year 1820. "He was a pioneer in that locality and the large house he built overlooking the Elk River was made of logs from the surrounding forest, the place being a dense wilderness. The log house had a large stone chimney at one end, the smoke conductor for a large open fireplace." "David Hamrick was the father of 16 children, nine sons and seven daughters." Genealogists are divided over whether his wife, Elizabeth, was the daughter of John Miller or his brother, Francis (See Elizabeth Miller notes). But I believe Hardway has proved she was the daughter of Francis Miller. Research: 1 13 Elizabeth Miller. Born Jan 1797 in Bath Co., VA.. Died 1876. Reference4 Webster History, P432; Hamrick...P82;60 Don Norma. .(See Research section) Wilton Hamrick felt certain that Ron Hardway, a Webster County historian, had the correct information. In a lengthy volume on the Millers, Hardway wrote on Page 112: "Elizabeth Miller, the third daughter of Francis and Margaret Miller, was born in 1805. She married David Hamrick, a son of Revolutionary War veteran Benjamin Hamrick and Nancy McMillian. David and Elizabeth settled on Elk River at Whittaker Falls near the present-day Randolph-Webster County boundary." Research: The sources appear about evenly divided over whether Elizabeth Miller, the wife of David Hamrick, was the daughter of John Miller or his brother, Francis Miller. Each had a daughter named Elizabeth. It appears that they may have been picking up the information from common sources, with no one going to the original source. The truth may await an exploration of the Bath County, Va., records where she was born. One sheet Anna Dodrill had showed the parents of Elizabeth Miller as Francis Miller and Margaret Pritt; it showed her birthplace as Bath County, Va. Wilton Hamrick also said that he thinks Elizabeth Miller was the daughter of Francis Miller and Margaret Pritt. Wilton feels certain that Ron Hardaway, historian of Webster County, WV, would have this correct: Hardaway said she was the daughter of Francis Miller. (See Hardway's separate documentation on Francis Miller). On the other hand, Sampson Miller's "Annals of Webster County" and Col. A.S. Anderson's "Anderson, 'Grimes, Hamrick Families and Descendants" lists Elizabeth Miller as the daughter of John Miller and Eva Burns. So does a voluminous work by Jeff Miller, available at Anna and Ivan Dodrill's home. This applies, too, to the work of Don Norman of Elyria, Ohio. 14 Adam Gregory. Born 25 Jul 1802. Died 7 Nov 1877. Dear Hamrick's of California and Other Interested Individuals~ Well it is settled, I am coming to California in July (only 4 months from now) for my branch reunion! Just got the word today that I can definetly be there, so I am planning now. It will be on July 18 at Lodi Lake, on the "point" which is around the end of the Lake, opposite from the beach. The kids can go to the beach while the adults visit and share Hamrick history, or whatever! It will be potluck, all day from morning to ? I can hardly wait! If you want more information about this reunion of "The Natural or by Marriage Descendants of the Gold Rush Pioneers ~ Jesse and Elizabeth Rhodes Hamrick of Jackson Valley, California~1850 to Present" please write back to me, I would love to meet you and share info and everything. Or if you are a Hamrick related person and have a real desire to come and met me and other Hamrick's then please do plan to come. I will be in CA after July 9, contact me if you want my Sacto. phone number before July 9. I would also like to contact any more of my lost Hamrick descendants, who may want to attend, so if you know of any will you please, please, please, pass this info on to them, and ask them to call me collect at 808 874-3486, thanks so much. I am the one organizing this reunion, and I will bring the printed updates on the family history, and the corrections I have received to date, send em in if you have not done so yet. I also have received the copy of the 1932 Hamrick History, written by their son Henry which I will give to everyone, a real Hamrick treasure! And new descendant charts will be included, along with some of the great new photos that people have shared with me. I may get a chance to go to Salt Lake City to the Genealogical Library too, I will try after the reunion, that is another goal for this trip of mine. We'll see..... I hope so. Thanks for any help with this, and please call me if you like, and let me know you are coming, so I can know how many packages of information to create! At almost every cemetery I found Hamricks. Having : nothing else to do....and no life to speak of <gr> I began copying them : all down. WELL! I wouldn't have started if I'd known how many there : were. Besides being at almost every cemetery, there were almost always : GREEN, GREENE and BRIDGEs. There are waaaayyyyyyy too many to attach : here, but if anyone is interested, I have listed each cemetery I found, : it's url, and how many I found there. I'll email the list to anyone : interested. : : Jane : p.s. didn't find a single HamBrick ***sigh**** :
