I am new at this E-mail business. I can't figure out how to send two links on the same message! I will just have to send you two messages! This is one of the sites that I have found. I have just started working on the Hamricks from Rutherford Co. NC. Kay P. Hamrick 201 Oakmont Dr Kingsport, TN 37663 [email protected]

John Wesley C. Kinman married Rebecca Jane Hamrick probably in Texas. She born:1890, he born: April 10, 1887 probably in Texas. Child: Emsley Kinman born 1889 Jimmy Kerr 6190 Cargo Rd. Hello All, I haven't had anything to say since I joined this group because the Hamrick name is my mother-in-law's mothers maiden name. But I have finally convinced her to give me *something* to go on. Does this ring ANY bells for anyone? Tayler/Taylor or Tayter Lafette Hambrick - no dates except that he died in 1943 married Donna Oline Odom/Odam who was born Jan 1884 and died Feb 1932. They had (along with the names I can't get) Edith Edwina Hamrick born in 1918. Edith is my husbands grandmother. I know that her parents died and were buried in State Line Mississippi. Thanks in advance Ceily Uram
Back in my Internet newbie days, I was surfing and found TWO Hamrick websites. But (shame on me) I neglected to bookmark them or write down the URLs. Could someone please post the URL addresses to this mailing list, or send me an e-mail? Thanks, Cousin Claire

She received a letter from "Louisville Mom" who wrote to blah blah blah. Then an arrogant repsonse from Ms. Landers. OOOOOH!!! Did this piss anybody off as much as it did me? That is the most ARROGANT attitude I've heard in a long while. I agree that she is implying that to have arrived in this country one way is inherently better than to have arrived in another way. And that those of us who do this research do it for some sort of ego boost, or to feel superior to those around us. But then I guess none of us on the Hamrick list can feel superior to anybody else on the Hamrick list - we're all kin, one way or another!!!! (But we could, I suppose, feel superior to those around us - after all, I think we have a pretty good family!!! Hamrick, Hambrick or any other way you wanna spell it!!!) She may feel that way, but I've NEVER gotten that inpression from anybody, on or off this mailing list, that I've been in contact with who is tracing their roots. They've all been helpful, and friendly, and have treated me like family. I guess because in some far off distant way, we are family. And family is always a good thing. I guess that's why her response makes me so mad. I see it as a way to find my family. Far off & distant tho' they may be, they are still FAMILY. Ann Landers can keep her family "shrub" as far as I'm concerned. I'll keep my sometimes *barely* branching part of the Ham(b)rick family tree & be damn proud of 'em. Chicken-theiving gamblers & all!!! (That would be ole' Righley!!) She's probably really missing out. Her loss. -s- ps - thanks for letting me sound off. Ya just gotta every now & then. -- Sarah E. To all Hamrick cousins, This is my first post since joining this discussion group. I will give my connection to the Hambrick/Hamrick family and hope that it will be of interest to anyone who is keeping track of Hamrick descendents. The first two generations are from the Hamrick Archives. I hope that they are correct. From Enoch on down is from the book FRANCIS ADAMS AND MARY ELIZABETH HAMBRICK by Leona Meyer, 1978, also from personal knowledge. Patrick Hamrick & Margaret Ingles James Hamrick & Alice Mathis Enoch Hamrick & Mary Johnson Mary Elizabeth Hamrick & Francis Adams Francis Adams & Rachel Ellis Cemantha J. Adams & David Alexander Black Pearl Rae Doyle Black & Charles S. Quigley Elizabeth Frances Quigley & William E. Page, Jr. William E. Page, III (me) I have more information on the Enoch Hamrick line if anyone is interested. Bill Page, Sebring, FL
Sorry for the long quote but it is needed for what follows. Lorna R Dunklee wrote: "Did anyone besides me read Ann Landers' column in today's (Sunday April 5, 1998) paper? She received a letter from "Louisville Mom" who wrote to complain about the fact that her children who were adopted from Korea were being asked in school to do a project on family history. The Mom was expressing the opinion that schools should keep out of such family information and should not be encouraging children to look into their family backgrounds. She went on to say that some children (those in foster care or from troubling family situations) may be embarassed by such a project. Ann Landers' response was as follows: "I'm glad you wrote. Your letter gives me an opportunity to speak out about family trees, lineage and other topics that should have no place in our schools. It is nobody's business whether a child's family came over on a slave ship or the Mayflower. Teachers should not be asking about family background. If I had to draw a picture of my family tree it would look like a shrub. My parents and grandparents immigrated from Russia, and beyond that, I don't have a clue as to my lineage, and I have never given it a moment's thought." Well guys--I think we should all clobber Ann with letters!!!!!! She obviously is looking at a person's interest in their lineage as something that would connote snobbery. She is implying that society would think there is something inferior about the child whose parents arrived on the slave ship compared to those with Mayflower ancestors. I think those who do not have a natural curiosity about their family history (no matter what that history is) have the misconception that those of us with an interest in genealogy do our research out of some sort of desire to feel superior to others. (MY ancestors arrived in 1727, just when did YOUR ancestors arrive--oh not until 1855--then I MUST be superior to YOU!) I think we need to set Ann Landers straight as to WHY we are interested in the pursuit of our family history--as well as the history of the times our ancestors lived in in general." So to this I add: If you want write to Ann Landers, here's her email address: [email protected] And if you want to contact Creators' Syndicate (the folks who publish Ann's column in newspapers around the world), try this email address: [email protected] Here's what I wrote: Dear Ann Landers, I started MY genealogy research when, as an 8th grader, I was asked to prepare a family tree. I did pretty well; even got an "A" on the project but, at the time, it was just another assignment. Years later I realized that the value of the assignment was not so much inlearning where MY ancestors came from but in learning that all Americans were immigrants and that one thing that helped to make this country so great was its diversity. None of my ancestors, so far as I know, came over on the Mayflower; none came on slave ships and none came through Ellis Island. Although I can trace my roots to kings, most were farmers and blacksmiths, teachers and preachers, in other words just plain folks. Family history is American history and world history, Ann. (I wonder why your grandparents left Russia and I suspect you do too.) My name is Dick Ross but you can sign me "Genealogist from the 8th grade." --Dick Ross

Sylvanus is a First Name of a HAMRICK. Sylvanus Hamrick married Harriet KILLIAN. Early 1800's Harley & Jeanne
Jeanne, I don't find anyone with the last name of SYLVANUS in my current database or the name KILLIAN. I do have some people with a first or middle name of Sylvanus (Sylvannus); no dates on them yet, but they appear to be mid-to-late 19th century (S.C.Jones has them as either 6th or 7th generation). Interested in ancestors or descendants of Meshack Hambrick, born circa 1790, who came to Alabama around 1820/30 from Jasper County, Georgia. He married Rebecca Kelly and was a veteran of the War of 1812. He lived in the Crenshaw/Coffee County, Alabama area. They were the parents of several children. Will exchange all info. Please respond via e-mail: [email protected] Many thanks. David.

I bet these HAMRIC's are related to my GGGgrandfather, John HAMRICK who is listed in Hempstead Co(next to Nevada): 1860 census--John 61 VA, Catherine 24 AL with his son John Head HAMRICK 30 SC, Elizabeth 27 TN, Amanda 7 MS, William M 4 AR, Mariah 1 AR. John Head HAMRICK, 1831-1862, is buried at Okolona Cemetary, MS, and listed in Index to Arkansas Confederate Soldiers as Pvt, Co C, 20 Ark. Inf.(He was brother to James Mat, my GGgrandfather, see below) Anyway, John Head HAMRICK was also father of James Madison HAMRIC, 1861-1948, who is buried in Union Co, MS. James Madison HAMRIC was father of 1)John, 2)Dewitt and 3)Ruth. 1)John had John Robert, Charles, and James. 2)Dewitt had Jamie D. 3)Ruth married Hansel Fair Back to my line: My GGgrandfather, James Mat HAMRIC, 1816- 1903 is buried in the same cemetary in Union Co, MS with his nephew James Madison. James Mat is listed in 1850 Tippah Co (part which became Union) MS census as HAMBRICK 27 SC, with Mary 26 SC, Mary L 8 AL, Sarah E 5 AL, Nancy E 3 AL(my Ggrandmother), and Josaphine 1 MS His father was there also as John HAMBRICK 54 VA, Rebecca 68 SC, John H 20 SC, Rebecca 19 SC, Catharine 16 AL. I found a John HAMRICK who bought land 1837-1839 in Monroe Co, AL, which might be GGGgrandfather (there's a bunch of HAMBRICK's in Madison Co, Al, but don't quite connect). Anyway, Nancy HAMRIC married Cary Willis HENRY (both buried in Union Co) who had Mat Hamric HENRY. father of my mother, Hazel T. HENRY. Any questions? Winston Ellis Bradley, Jr, MD Birmingham, AL
