Patrick HAMRICK Sr. did NOT inherit land from Elizabeth DAY when she died. Patrick HAMRICK Sr went to court to claim inheritance from Roger DAY, Elizabeth's father. Patrick basically established that he was the only (or the closest) living relative to Roger DAY. If PAtrick had inherited the land from Elizabeth, then a court case would not have been needed. Perhaps a minor point, but we need to be careful not to get the "facts" as few as there are, mixed up. Not picking on you Jill, but want to make sure they group that claims that Patrick married Elizabeth DAY don't have an opening that doesn't exist. > +Margaret INGLES Born: 1696 in King Geo., VA d: 1734 in Prince William > Co. There were two Samuel HAMRICKs around the same age (within 5-10 years of each other).. We know that John, Robert and Joseph were NOT the fathers. That leaves two Samuels and three potential fathers. The older Samuel appears to be the son of James HAMRICK as he stayed with other children of James when they moved to North Carolina. The younger Samuel, yours, appears to be too young to fit into Patrick HAMRICK Jr's family, but it is not impossible. The best fit is Benjamin Sr.. plus they lived in the same county whereas Patrick HAMRICK Jr lived in Prince William County.. not proof, but the closest we have for now until something better is found. > Fact 3: in > Rappanhanock Co., VA, w/ 60-70 yr female Fact 4: 1810 Census Culpeper VA p > 96 Fact 5: 1820 Census Culpeper VA p 81 > 4 Nimrod Nathaniel HAMRICK Born: February 25, 1790 in VA d: > August 25, 1865 in Pioneer Cemetery, Ione,CA Fact 1: 1814-1817 Culpeper Co. > VA Tax List Fact 2: 1820 1820 Fayette Co. 3. Jerry, You have my apology.. never said I could read reed good. Must admit I missed the brother part.. it was late, but it does say brother.. Oops! Probably won't be the last time I mess up, but at least we are having an interesting discussion as a result. For those of us (or at least me) who can get confused, maybe in the future just say you are related to Benjamin... I am related through Benjamin HAMRICK Sr. though his daughter, Mary, so I have a somewhat vested interest in the line. But I must point out that my Benajmin HAMRICK Sr doesn't have a brother named Jilson or Jeremiah so maybe I haven't been paying attention again. For the record, since it says you want to know.. Benjamin HAMRICK Junior, son of Benjamin HAMRICK Senior and Mary SIAS/SEIRS, was the one who served in the Revolutionary War and moved to present day West Virginia first. There was a Benjamin HAMRICK 3rd, son of Benjamin HAMRICK Jr and Nancy MCMILLION, but he wasn't born yet... Sorry about overlooking the "brother" part, and if you disagree with me on the first two generations of the HAMRICK family that is your right.. but I would like to why. What records point you to a different conclusion? Steven A. Bridges [email protected] Jerry G Collins wrote: > > If Mr. Bridges would have paid attention to my message, he would have seen > that I said his BROTHER'S line. I agree that it is a good idea to get everyone set on the first two generations. Perhpas one thing that would help, since there seems to be some controversy on the accuracy of some Hamrick researchers work, is for Steven to post his source notes or other documentation that supports what seems to be a well thought out outline of these two generations. I don't have any definitive documentation on these early generations and would love to see some. Maybe then we COULD move on to the third generation. But, if all the Hamrick researchers feel they are totally accurate and complete and totally documented (which, until Steven's message was the impression I've been getting lately on the Hamrick list), I really wonder why the rest of us are bothering with continued research. John HAMRICK did NOT move to West Virginia. One of his eleven children did eventually move to West Virginia, but by the time we get that far down the generation chart all bets are off where people had moved because by then they are everywhere. My only point in the above response to that note was to point out that the Nicholas County/Webster County HAMRICK lines descend from Benjamin HAMRICK Sr, not Patrick HAMRICK Jr. But then, perhaps people don't really care.... By the way, you can probably blame me for Char's information because I believe I am the one who provided it to her, or at least a piece of it.... assuming we are talking about the same Char. Bridges > [email protected] Steven - I only have one ..... hmmm ..... I hesitate to call it a disagreement... just a possible question on the info on Joseph. I have in my possession, a copy of pages from a compilation of Tax records by Augusta B. Fothergill and John Mark Naugle, titled "Virginia Tax Payers, 1782 - 1787, Other than those published by the US Census Bureau" (Geanealogical Publishing Co, Baltimore, 1978), that lists 2 Joseph Hambricks, (Jun & Sen). The person who copied this (a distant cousin) didn't copy the page interpreting the numbers, so I'm not sure what they mean. My cousin (a different one!!) & I are fairly certain that these folks are 2 of our 3 Joseph's. If that's right, this would make Joseph, son of Patrick, 50-55ish, and we place his son Joseph Jr. as born c. 1753 (he fought in the Revolution). So it doesn't look like Joseph Sen. moved from Virginia. Just Prince WIlliam COunty (the tax records have these boys in Franklin County). I know that his descendants were in Franklin County for sure as late as 1808. I need to get this tax record figured out (it has XXXXX-XXXXX-XX for numerical entries. I need to get the inter-library loan thing going & pull in a copy of this book. Unless someone has it, or a copy of the "key" page & can decipher this for me.) I canna say fer sure that I'm right, tho'! Just my .02 worth!!! Sarah -- Sarah E. Hambrick [email protected] "There's enough youth, how about a fountain of smart?" - unknown

    3. It seems that it might be useful if we could level set everyone on the first and second generations of the HAMRICK Family (based upon known documentation except certain noteable works of partial fiction). Below is the way I view the HAMRICK family and where they moved to for the first two generations. If anyone has documentation that would change any of this, I would appreciate a copy so I can re-evaluate my views. GENERATION 1: Patrick HAMRICK (to be called Patrick HAMRICK Senior) born circa 1684 and arrived in Virginia circa 1700. Married Margaret INGLES, daughter of Robert & Sarah INGLES, most likely in Richmond County, Virginia circa 1712-1714. Margaret's death is unknown. She was last proven to be alive in 1734. Patrick HAMRICK Senior died in Prince William County, Virginia in 1764. GENERATION 2: The order of the first three sons is open to speculation as they seem to be close in age. There is conflicting data as to the order, and this is my "best guess": 1. Patrick HAMRICK (to be called Patrick HAMRICK Junior) born circa 1714-5 in Richmond County, Virginia. Wife unknown. Apparently stayed in present day Virginia, and died in Prince William County in 1780's. Patrick Jr. appears to have been the father of several children, many of whom left Virginia. 2. James HAMRICK (to be called James HAMRICK Senior) born circa 1715-17 in King George County, Virginia. Married Alice MATHIS. Stayed in present day Virginia and died in 1778 in Fauquier County, Virginia. James Sr. appears to have been the father of several children, most of whom left Virginia. 3. Robert HAMRICK born circa 1717-9 in King George County, Virginia. Wife named Elizabeth. Maiden name unknown although there is speculation it was STONE, but that cannot be proven at this time. Robert apparently stayed in present day Virginia and died in 1757 in Prince William County, Virginia. Despite is age, Robert apparently married late in life, and has only one known child, a daughter. His daughter, and perhaps his widow, apparently left Virginia. There is an obvious gap in the age of the male children of 6-8 years where it is likely they had some daughters.. at least one who appears to have married James BRIDGES.. and maybe a child or two who died at, or closely after, birth. There is room for three or four children before the next son who lived to be an adult... 7. Benjamin HAMRICK (to be called Benjamin HAMRICK Senior) was born circa 1727-8 in King George County, Virginia. His age can be pinned down because he was still a minor tithable in 1747 when he was recorded with his father. He married Mary SEIRS/SIAS, daugher of John SIAS/SEIRS. Benjamin Sr. apparently stayed in present day Virginia, and died in the mid 1790's in Fauquier County, Virginia. Benjamin Sr. had a large family, and most of them left present day Virginia. 8. John HAMRICK was born circa 1730 in King George County, Virginia. His age can be estimated first by the fact that he was not listed as a tithable in 1747. This means he was under the age of 17, but he must have been very close. John married Sarah (maiden name unknown). John apparently stayed in present day Virginia, and died in 1757 in Prince William County, Virginia. John had only three known children which is consistent with his age and death. His son left Virginia and the disposition of his daughters is unknown. 9. Joseph HAMRICK (to be called Joseph HAMRICK Senior) was the youngest male child. He was born circa 1731 as he too was not listed as a tithable in 1747, and appears to be younger than John. Joseph was old enough to have owned property in the early 1750's so he has to have been born very close to this time frame. He married Margaret, maiden name unknown. Joseph Sr. appears to be the only son of Patrick Sr. and Margaret who actually left present day Virginia. As the youngest, he was not that much older than the sons of his older brothers, and many of them may have left together. The THIRD GENERATION is obviously the hardest as it requires us to tie the grandchildren of Patrick HAMRICK Senior and Margaret INGLES to the right parents. If anyone has documents that might disprove any of the above, I would love a copy. At the risk of offending certain people and I apologize upfront, I do NOT consider the Hamrick Generations by S. C. Jones, or the new books by Joyce Moody as proof. As new information is uncovered, it may be necessary to modify the above so all new documentation is greatly appreciated. Have fun shooting holes at it..... If you agree with this version, say so... If you disagree with this version, say so... then tell us why. If we all compare notes, maybe we can come to a concensus, or maybe I just got too close to my son's car model when he was using the glue... Steven A. Bridges [email protected]

    3. Elizabeth & Char, If you don't have Elizabeth Moody's 2 volume books, you should buy them as they are mainly about Rev. John Hamrick and his predecessors and decendants. According to Ms. Moody, Rev. John married Nancy Todd (his second wife) on April 26, 1811 in Wilkes Co. GA. Volume 2 includes the listing of the estate sale of Rev. John Hamrick, which is very interesting. Bev Barnes Orlando, FL
