    2. What do you think is meant by the sentence, "Prior to this time, in 1369, he was appointed Bailiff of Tindale and had custody of the Manors of Werk and Balester. He died in 1381, seized of Kirkharle, Whalton, Barrington, Denon, Wallington, Whitchester, HAMRICK, Crookden, Sweet Hope and lands in Lyham........." It is not comprehensible to me in regard to Hamricks. But then many things in life are not comprehensible to me -- and require help. [email protected]

    2. Bad news to go with Sarah good news kids.. I checked the "Parish Maps of the Counties of England and Wales", and there is no Chalton Parish in Northumberland County. Closest fit is a Chatton Parish in the north central part of the County. Most of the parishes were not formed until the 1600's or later, so perhaps Chalton was a Scottish parish. Just additional information... Steven A. 3. OK Kids - Sarah's has been searching the maps at the PCL again (Perry-Casteneda Library at UT Austin. No, I'm not a t-sip, but actually a maroon-blooded Aggie. But PCL DOES have a FANTASTIC collection of maps online!) check out http://www.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/PCL/Map_collection/europe/United_Kingdom.GIF Northumberland County is in far NE England, right by the Scotland Border. About 80-90 miles S-SE of Edinburgh. 3. Recently while at the library I ran across the following which personally I think may be a real clue for us: Genealogies of Virginia Families from Tyler's Quarterly Historical & Genealogical Magazine. The Strother Family .......(will not send all the page).......Alan del Strother, Lord of Lyham, in the Parish of Chalton, County of Northumberland, England, had by a fine (Temp.23 Edward III) 1349, 100 merke and half of the Manor of Lyham. He was High Sheriff of Northumberland 1354-5 and married Constance de Lyham. Alan del Strother, son of Alan, Lord of Lyham, was High Sheriff of Northumberland 1356-7 and Warden of the Castle of Shire of Roxburgh in 1368 and in 1376 was succeeded in that command by Thomas Percy, Earl of Northumberland, by the King's order "To hold them in the same manner that Alan del Strother had holden them". Prior to this time, in 1369, he was appointed Bailiff of Tindale and had custody of the Manors of Werk and Balester. He died in 1381, seized of Kirkharle, Whalton, Barrington, Denon, Wallington, Whitchester, HAMRICK, Crookden, Sweet Hope and lands in Lyham......... Personally I believe this definitely places Hamricks in England at least by 1381.... The Hamricks and Strothers were all around each other in the United States. Does anyone have a good map of England????? Joan

    3. Hi Debby and ALL Hamrick's~ Kindly understand there is NO CHARGE for our Email List! Rootsweb is our host server and sometimes they appreciate donations, but there is NO obligation to donate to their server costs. Many listowners pay an annual fee of $20+ to use the Rootsweb for their lists, but this is not anything that listmembers need to worry about. I made a very clear suggestion that if anyone who would LIKE to donate to Rootsweb they could and it would be appreciated, but I never said anyone has to pay for anything here. They had just added a hugely expensive system, to their already expensive server and were looking for help paying for it. Please read these messages carefully and fully and ask me if you do not understand something, I will be more than glad to clarify the issues of list maintainance. I started this list in Spring of 1995 and we have never had any fees and will never, as long as I am listowner. It is a CHOICE to donate to Rootsweb, which maintains hundreds of email lists like ours. I said if you wish to donate, you could name the 'Hamrick List' and then Rootsweb would know which list the donations were coming from..... Please refer to http://www.rootsweb.com for more info about their huge service to the genealogical community, which is paid for by those who choose to donate. 3. Hi all~ I am so excited and wanted to announce that I bought a new laptop! Well, its used but new to me. What a fun new tool/toy. And so I will be able to get mail and take care of list maintainance while I am on my one month trip in July. This will be the first time I will be mobile. My Hamrick reunion in CA is coming along great, many people are coming from 6 Western states and Mexico too. That is really special! Some people have been sending me info and photos and other great things on my Hamrick family and I am so appreciative, the book I am compiling is going to be full of Hamrick information. The photo history is particularly rich. Well, I just wanted to say hi, if you connect to my Jesse Calvert Hamrick/Elizabeth Wisdom Rhodes KY 1823 > MO 1840? arrive > CA Nov. 1850 OR if you have Nimrod Hamrick and Mariah Adams who married in 1816 Culpeper, VA in your line sideways or collaterolly and I have not spoken to you yet, I would surely like to hear from you now. 3. HELP! If anyone has any information on the following.... ANY clues would be of GREAT appreciation! Thanks! Frank Hambick (born abt. 1870-1880? died abt. 1932) had at least 2 brothers and at least one sister: Joe Hambick Oscar Hambick Mary Hambick Joe was said to be a postmaster in New Orleans Oscar by one account was a detective by another account spent time in jail for killing someone... their father was said to be killed in the war??? Story says Frank left Annie, Illinois before 1898 spent a short time in Missouri, Arkansas and then stayed in Mississippi possibly New Albany, Philadelphia, Tupelo or Tunica. At some point stayed in Tennessee around Tipton County. Frank died in Arkansas and is buried near Hwy. 61? around 1932. he married Emaline (Emma Nelson) b. abt. 1870-1880? died abt. 1942 (her mother was Betty Wolf and her father Charlie Nelson (Possibly Indian--story goes that they were supposed to go to Oklahoma but left--this doesn't make since to me since the Indians were moved in the 1830s to what is now Oklahoma--perhaps this was Betty and Charlie and the story was cold?). Frank and Emma Hambick's children were: Edith b. 19? Gracey b. 1910 Lois b. May 1902 d. 1987 Guy b. 1906 d. 1931 Vardaman b. May 1912 Omedia b. 1900 d. 1990 Lottie b. 2-22-1907 d.1993 Clyde Linwood Hambick b. 1922 left riding trains in his 20s and was never heard of again... and possibly another child (Jimmy) who died very young Any help would be greatly appreciated!
