    2. Elizabeth, AOL4.0 is not Java capable........so, that means that with most active sites you will not be able to bring up the site completely. I found this out when trying in vain to bring up JR McKinney's Hamrick site. So what ever you do.......don't delete AOL3.0 from your PC. Don't get me wrong.........4.0 is much simpler to look at and not as confusing at times, but is frustrating until you figure out that the preview of the "new and improved" doesn't have all the features it is supposed to. Hope this helps, Janet

    3. Hi Elizabeth! AOL...well, I still have my account with them also...John has one too. AOL really does have a good genealogy department. I kept it as long as I did because I'm a Webmaster and since 20% of all Internet Users use AOL I decided I would keep it in order to see how pages "look" through AOL's browser. Finally I just couldn't take it any longer and got MCI. Now AOL refuses to let me go and I just found out that my AOL website and email address is still live...they're giving it to me free...oh well--guess they should since I was a subscriber for so long. Now in one house we have two AOL accounts and a MCI account. I checked my AOL mail earlier today and had 65 porn messages 22 advertisements and ONE piece of actual mail....I really hated that. Never get that sort of thing on MCI. Web pages can be very simple or very complicated. Matter of fact, if you're interested in doing one...AOL gives you space and they have a great little program that will tell you step by step how to put one up. It was the very first one I ever did...so you learn and have fun. . . You'll be surprised how easy it is! I'm going to check out those links on the Hambrick's--I sure hope my HAMBICK will fit in somewhere soon....they're wearing me out! debby -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <IET[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, July 23, 1998 9:21 PM Subject: Re: [HAMRICK-L] T. 1. [HAMRICK-L] Benjamin Hamrick
    2. J R McKinney
    3. Descendants of Upson Co, GA Hamricks, On July 9, 1739, an American Revolutionary Soldier, Benjamin Hamrick, was born in Prince William Co., VA. On the 259th anniversary of his birth, Hamrick's name has been inscribed on the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) monument on the Upson County Court House Lawn. According to information compiled by Joyce Moody, Benjamin Hamrick was a resident of Prince William County when he first volunteered in the Revolution. In 1832, at the age of 93, Benjamin Hamrick applied for his Veteran's Pension in the Upson County Courthouse. But he did not know of any way to prove his service. Long after his death at the age of 100, personal papers were found in Captain William Lenoir's desk at the University of North Carolina Library where the officer had listed his men and the services they had rendered during the war. These volunteers received no pay and no uniforms. They rode their own horses brought their own rifles. The documents revealed that Hamrick continued to volunteer throughout the war, serving under Capt. John Cleveland's Company of Light Horse Volunteers and Col. Benjamin Cleveland and Capt. William Lenoir and General Rutherford.. Hamrick fought at King's Mountain and at Ramsuer's Mill. He went with Capt. Lenoir's company to the Creswell for lead to be carried to Salisbury. He supplied sundries to the Militia. When Benjamin Hamrick died in 1839, he was buried in the Bethelehem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery on Triune Mill Road where his son, Rev. John Hamrick had been pastor. (Quoted from the Thomason Times July 13, 1998) There is a picture in the article of the DAR Monument on the courthouse lawn IN MEMORY OF AMERICA'S REVOLUTIONAY WAR SOLDIERS BURIED IN UPSON COUNTY, GEORGIA 1775 - 1783 William Carraway Richard Respress Henry Kendall, Sr James Walker Valentine Horsley Benjamin Hamrick John Houston Chapter NSDAR 1995 Joyce Moody commented that it had taken her three years to accomplish. Any one who is a descendant of Benjamin Hamrick can apply for membership in the DAR or SAR based upon her work. J R

    2. J R McKinney
    3. Tressie, I have no additional data on Nancy Hamrick and William Branham. I would tend to think the marriage License could be wrong because the clerk put down a name he thought he heard and the participants might have been more interested in getting married than getting the paper work done correctly. They may have lacked some reading skills. In the Obit they usually have imput from the family and generally have the parents correct but stray into family tradition when enumerating grandparents and before. Was Nancy alive at the time of the death of William Branham? J R

    1. Re: [HAMRICK-L] CULPEPER CO VA
    2. J.R. No, Nancy died before William and he remarried a Menefee in Missouri. Menefee is also a Culpeper/Rapp. Co name. William and Nancy (Hancock/Hamrick} Brandom named their first daughter Sarah Ann Dorcas. Sarah Ann for his step-mother, and my guess is Dorcus for Nancy's mother Dorcas (Wigfield). Nancy died Aug 14, 1870 at age 65 years, 11 months, 7 days. William Brandom & Nancy are the ancestors of my best friend, who has listened to me worry with Ham(b)ricks for years. Now, with some good luck she can add Hamrick to her list of ancestors too. Another interesting point, there are NO Hancocks in Culpeper Co which has always been the puzzle! Tressie

    3. For everyone who deleted their original welcome message when they subscribed, here it is again, KEEP IT and read it! You need this info when you want to unsub and resub, its your responsibility to do this correctly, I am laid up, my computer keeps crashing and I may or may not be able to help you at all, please keep and follow these important and simple list directions. thanks for your cooperation, jill ching Welcome to the HAMRICK mailing list! You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to HAMRICK as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. 1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to [email protected] that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to [email protected] 3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to [email protected] to discontinue mail mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to [email protected] to start receiving digests. 4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again. 5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to [email protected] It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both.
